Parkins & Spiegs featuring Shep and Tanny to start the first hour.

Genuinely funny stuff

I’d be okay with Mac not coming back, the chemistry is just so much better with Spiegel.

Yep.

Is it really a net positive when two of the most annoying personalities in Chicago sports radio history mesh so well?

You’re probably one of these guys that whine about everyone though at the same time claim to never listen.

What would your ideal daily lineup look like, if you could grab any host from any station in town?

It was an entertaining show. Mac is still really good talking football. Parkins is the best personality at the Score.

Parkins is arguably the best personality, but LoHo is easily the best interviewer by far. He is able to extrapolate info and ask the tough questions without coming across as a complete douche.

I would gladly have a Spiegs/Mac team again. Parkins and Spiegs? No way!

It seems like part-time Speigs is hungry, glad to be on the air, and really brings it when he is on, but full-time Speigs, comfortable and regular, becomes complacent and whiney. Sounds like most of us, probably. When he's talking baseball or really engaged with other topics, I'm a Big Fan, when he's whining, PTFB for me.

I don’t think extrapolate means what you think it means

I find myself listening to more of the podcasts when either Mac or Parkins is hosting with someone else, when it’s the two of them together it just doesn’t work for some reason. I had high hopes for this show when it started, but I think a Mac/Bernstein, Spiegel/Parkins combo would have me tune in more often

This place is at its best when we have score employees posting anonymously and grinding axes.

I've never heard Larry not sound like a nerd or douche.

Spiegal solo 6-9
Mac, Jurko and Parko 9-12
Silverman, Zpack 12-3
Hood, Dickerson 3-7
Kaplan 7-10
Les 10-6

Sir is kind of an anti North where he is technically proficient and providing a radio show but is not particularly entertaining. Zaidman is the same. They sound professional

Holmes and Zaidman worked the Bears beat for years and learned how to be team mouthpieces while not actually being employed by the team. Kind of like Hub was back when he was on the Bears radio team. The apparently leads to professional security buy makes for mundane radio. Holmes may have done 10,000 Bears hits over the years, but rarely gave you any information other than the team provided stuff everyone else parrots. Sports talk radio was at its best when the hosts were able to ask difficult questions to the team representative and would grill the beat writers when they gave them the team take, that era is dead, so you get the exact same takes nearly everywhere, Olin and Moon are the only two that really seem to give you something other than the company line.

I go back to when ZZ was an update / fill-in person. When he would host and give a chance to offer his own takes on baseball.....they were epic-bad. Holmes is what he is, but I don't recall him ever having epic bad sports takes. Just....dorky and creepy with other women in the media.

Best part of yesterday's show was around 4:30 - 4:35 when they were playing back a caller who Les banned and that same guy called the morning show to say the Cubs' main issue was booze.

Around 19:30

Yeah the OG thread is what initially got this place rolling.

I agree. I was a Holmes hater for years but he's won me over the past 6 months or so. Very professional and a high quality show. Arguably the best on the Score.

He's best suited for the national format, can fill time with general discussion and gambling, but doesn't really bring the energy or depth of knowledge to do a long term local show. Football takes are pedestrian and Mac still brings way more content and is much better with interviews/guest on Bears Monday/Friday than Parkins. However, this does not make him a bad sports radio host, his personality is just more suited for a national format.

I've heard a couple of his national shows, and I agree he does a good job.

Riding in my car flipping channels Tuesday. Parkins commented Chase Daniels had more running attempts than Mitch. Parkins talks more. Like 20 seconds later Mac says you know Daniels has more rushing attempts than Mitch. Parkins says I just said that. Mac had a brain cramp and seemed genuinely embarrassed. His apology really went on. Mac you're one of the true greats in Chicago sports radio history. You don't to need to apologise to anybody. A lot of your fans can't listen to you because of Parkins, and dreaded Speigel visits.
