Parko going for 24 hours on the air. Surprised there isn't a thread about it. No one must be listening anymore.

I saw a story on the Trib site. Yawn.

"Athletes For Justice" website is very vague about their mission. Do they support any radical groups? How many ¢ on the dollar donation will go to the new grocery store, or overall?

When Mike North did the 24-hour radio thing it was classic great radio.

He was interviewed during the Cubs game last night about it . I can see what kind of heat that generated here

Not really a cause most here can get behind.

The last time I tried to listen to Parkins it seemed like 24 hours. In real time it was about 6 minutes.

The cause of funding grifters who have no real plan to do anything other than enrich themselves. Why aren't more people supporting it?

Obama's major presidential accomplishment is his massive Martha's Vineyard mansion.

When Mike North did the 24-hour radio thing it was classic great radio.

On Wednesday, June 23rd, The Score's Danny Parkins will broadcast for 24-hours to raise money and awareness for the Athletes for Justice's Austin Harvest food mart project. Austin Harvest is in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago and was originally a pop–up food mart that was a converted liquor store. The mart addressed a food desert in the city and was staffed as an after-school program three days a week by local kids. The program was successful and they want to build a permanent structure that can be open 7 days a week to fully service the community and employ more kids from the neighborhood. Athlete’s For Justice is a Chicago-based charity founded by former Chicago Bear Sam Acho.

Hope that helps.

I had it on during the intro. When Sam Acho described the genesis of this project and the athletes involved, my first thought was why haven’t they just cut a check and gotten this done? Why put it in the hands of AM radio listeners?

I’m not sure what type of structure they’re looking for, but I imagine the construction costs would be a drop in the bucket for a group that includes guys like Jason Heyward.

It's a noble cause and I applaud Parko's effort but I won't be listening to any of it. He basically said on yesterday's show that there would be no sports talk. So it's a heavy podcast day for me.

Building a store isn't a problem. Or a solution to why there isn't a store in the first place.

He said on the Cubs game last night the name of the project is a send up of the " bad faith" arguments people make when Chicago is in the news. Seeing how most of the time Chicago is in the news it isnt about how nice Buckingham Fountain is, I dont know how " bad faith" those arguments are.

But whether it is or not, it’s a project Acho’s group believes will add value and one he says the kids they spoke with desired.

I’m not sure what type of store they’re envisioning - I thought the description seemed more a permanent farmer’s market type building than a supermarket - but I’d think the backers could put some urgency behind it at a fairly modest cost.

When they say that it generally means major grocery stores and supermarkets. Sure there are convenience stores all over, but that's not exactly the healthiest or best place to be buying cart loads of groceries.

There are a half a dozen real grocery stores. So the demand is Food4less and marianos?

A radiothon in 2021 is more about the egos of people involved. Start up a Go Fund Me, and have the Cubs post it on social media.

Millionaire athletes asking for money? Heywards made 120+ mil. last 6 years. Sell a couple yachts and donate it.

Acho rattled off a ton of names. Heyward stood out because of his well known contract, but a guy like Jason Kipnis was on the last and seemingly could contribute something from his $50m+ career earnings to have this done and ready for the summer instead of going the radiothon route.

Something about having more grocery stores than liquor stores that people won’t shoplift or rob? That about it?

Or is it Parkins Spiega and Bernsie feel guilty about how and where they shop?
