I don't know about that. It's more that he never recovered from losing Terry and the whole B&B dynamic. No shame in afternoon drive in Chicago, but now he's just a shadow of himself.

Dude has had a great career in his hometown. Made a lot of money.

Not only that, he completely changed (for better or worse) the way sports are talked about, analyzed and consumed in this city. He redefined the Chicago sports Zeitgeist from the late 90s through 2010 or so. He is the most important figure in Chicago sports media over the past 25 years.

He had opportunities, didn’t take them, and now he’s a surly old misanthrope who seems to have alienated his coworkers. Sure, he had some dream job that us bozos on the computer wish we had. OK, you think that’s any sort of solace? I don’t.

Parkins made the other choice. Nothing wrong with that either.

Beyond that, the assumption that a "national" TV job has the same importance or salary it did a couple decades ago is simply incorrect. Parkins is basically doing a glorified version of the CLTV show that Greenberg hosted in the mid-90s. His audience is tiny, his relevance is questionable, and his salary is likely considerably less than what North, Mac and other Chicago sports talk heavyweights were pulling in during the halcyon days of sports talk radio in the 90s and early aughts.

Maybe Midget has a point but Parkins still makes more today than anyone at the Score and he probably isn't done trying to move up.
