Well I knew going in if the Hawks lost I would still have a great time and of course I was right. Let me first say what a great hockey game and I can't explain how it feels to walk into another teams building wearing Hawks jerseys and having people stare at you as to say "How dare you WEAR those jerseys in here".We had people mother fucking us all night and it was awesome. I will give the Wings faithful credit as most were very friendly and of course some were tools.(more on that in a moment).

Mac is the best guy to travel with on a road trip as he packed an awesome spread for the trip up and we munched on great samiches , fruit , power bars , water, rock star and candy. If was tough to keep some of it down thru Michigan and Im not bullshitting when I say this but every half mile a dead deer carcus was spaltered accross the highway for like a 180 miles.I counted 37 dead deer.

Of course the laughs were a plenty but we arrivied at the MGM grand hotel and Casino which was one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in and as were checking in Jonathon Towes and Adam Burish come up next to me to check out and Mac knows Burish so he's chatting with Adam and I introduce my self to Jonathon and we chat and I was surprised to see how big he was and he had one hell of a hand shake and grip and I can see why he does well in the corners digging those pucks out and then I went over to Burish and touched his neck where Eager's skate blade almost slit his throat .Very cool guys and thanked us for coming up to see them and I told them they had to win as we drove 250 miles to see them win.On the flipside Scotty Bowmen was the biggest douchebag you would ever want to meet as I went up to chat and he wanted nothing to do with us and mumbled something as I tried to shake his hand and Mac say's "Yeah , real thrill to meet ya Scotty"...laughter insued on our parts as we got stiffed by Scotty.

Get to the game and I got to meet Aggravated White Sox Bob and he's as funny as his posts and i learn Bob is a Wings season ticket holder which explains a lot and I will put together a road trip with some of you guys for nest year as Bob will sell me some of his games next year.

The Wings fans just gave us shit at every turn and nothing to hostile.Yet.... The place went quiet when we tied it and you could hear a pin drop for the next 20 minutes as that building can't even come close to what we have here but I dygress but boy the chirpping wouldn't stop when it ended. Cockey mother fuckers after the game which leads me to Mac challenging two drunk stupid assholes who just kept running their mouths to a street brawl on 3rd avenue in the middle of downtown Detroit as these jerkoffs thought they were tough guys and just wouldn't stop and as I was running back to the hotel I had told Mac he was on his own.. I talked him out of dropping the gloves with these guys as he was defending the honor of the Indian head..

We went back to the Casino and got our asses handed to us and button 48 as I tell the story of Me, Mac and Josh Mora from Comcast breaking down the game while rolling the little white ball at the roulette table. I have to say that Josh was a great guy and gave us a little insight on the Wings winning goal after talking to Campbell on what happen.

A Big button 48 of a story I know but I had a blast and thanks to Mackey for the great time and geeting us tickets to the game.

When you guys were in the throes of passion did you fantasize Mac's hands were Toews's manly hands?

Glad you had fun and are home safe.

Random musings...

* Joe Louis Arena pales in comparison to the United Center on all levels. Creature comforts, seats and sightlines, food, noise, etc. They still think Little Caesar's pizza is a treat in Detroit.

* Detroit is the dumpiest big city in America. Worse than Houston. It needs to be flushed and rebuilt. Never noticed on my last trip there (SB XL) just how horribly run down it is. What an armpit... a total scenic blight.

* Slapshot Ed did his best impersonation of Ben Affleck's character from "Good Will Hunting," sporting nylon sweatpants below his brand new Ben Eager jersey, at the game.

* Most Red Wings fans were cool... save for the douches Ed talked about as we were walking back to the hotel. I think my crack "Which wide receiver did the Lions draft in the first round last month?" shut 'em up for good. Ed was very mature, wanting to walk away from the conflict. I, on the other hand...

* Listening to the movie "Slapshot" on the commute home was as much fun as watching it. And you notice more. Never picked up on George Roy Hill's fascination with Fleetwood Mac before.

* Aggravated Bob cracked me up with a line about Harry T making a pitch for the retirement of Dave Feamster's jersey.

* A great road trip. Playoff hockey in person... and the company of the affable and Affleckian Slappy... made it a splendid 24 hour excursion.

When I get some time I will break down my trip on the team charter to Colorado back in the 90's. Me and my bud sat in the 1st seats of the plane and I guess those were for the coach (Hartsburg) so we had to move a row back. That was a pretty awesome experience. This was during the Roenick years and although I didn't work Gate 3.5 in the new builiding anymore the players still knew me from the Old Barn across the street. What a great bunch of guys hockey players are.

Here is the deal with the Wings tickets.
I have gone to games there for years.
Family is over there.
They pestered me for years to buy a plan.
The MORNING the Hawks eliminated the Canucks, I called over there and said I will bite for a 1/2 season plan if I get ALL the Playoff games this season.
DONE DEAL.
4 seats......section 207....between blue line and centerline.
Wings let you pay per game for Playoff games...not thousands up front with unplayed game money going towards next years season tickets like they do here.
Now with Slapshot Ed on board with some folks over there, this idea works out perfectly.
The Wings ticket rep is a great guy.
I kind of feel badly because the economy over there is so bad and a Hawks fan can just pick up the phone and get tickets to the Stanley Cup games....but I guess we are just part of the economic stimulus to save the damned town over there.

For the most part, the Wings fans are great.
My pop off experience was Sunday in....WHERE ELSE...the pisser.....
I walk in with the Hawks cap on my head and some drunken mope starts screaming at me: "Look what Chicago sent us, the fucking Blackhawks and Obama"........I calmly looked him right in the eyes and said: "The Blackhawks are here trying to win a hockey game and THE PRESIDENT is just trying to SAVE YOUR FUCKING TOWN."

Never ever at a sporting venue has the men's room gone dead silent.

I know this will stir the pot.......
If Patrick Kane does not learn how to play some defense and check his man, I would TRADE him.
He always seems to be on the damned ice when Detroit is scoring.
The wannabe Wayne Gretzky act is going stale in the Playoffs.

Not to defend Detroit and Joe Jouis Arena or anything, but it was built in 1979, so it's bound to be < United Center on all levels. Glad you and Slappy had fun, just wish the outcome would've been better.

Man, Slapshot really must be the best movie ever if you're listening to it in the car. :o :? I have still not completed my assignment and feel like I'm the only guy in these United States that hasn't seen it.

Is Little Caesar's actually considered pizza? To paraphrase Kevin from The Office, their pizza is little more than "a hot circle of garbage."

What's lost in all of this is that this was your 1000th post Da Ma Ne - I thought there would be a bit more fanfare as you were leading up to this for weeks..

You need to do your posting (edit) a lot better!

Congrats on reaching the 1000 mark - a bit or irony with the "1000" to say the least eh?
