Several of you picked up on my hints back in the early winter. There are many reasons why the midday shift made the most sense for me and for the Score. Here are a few.

1. Large audience. The PPMs (personal people meters), which began a bit less than a year ago, are favoring middays. It seems more people consume midday radio than the industry realized. I like the idea of a large audience. God bless the internet.

2. Best match-up. I keep hearing people say Waddle and Silvy have the best show in a sports format. There has been no shyness on my part on how much I enjoy their show, both while I was there and since I left in January. The winter ratings indicate the show is strong... W&S were stronger than any major daypart on both sports yakkers. I don't -- we don't -- want to get in the ring with a tomato can. Let's lace 'em up against the so-called "best." 3. Lifestyle. When you do afternoons, you have your entire morning to prepare, but also play golf, exercise, go shopping, pants around the ankles, whatever you can squeeze in before getting downtown by 12:30 or so. It's a great arrangement, single or married. But... I've done it to death. Since January of 1992. "A little change never hurt anybody... a little variety?" -- R.P. McMurphy to Nurse Ratchet when he wanted to watch Game 1 of the 1963 World Series in "Cuckoo's Nest." I'm up around 6 most days anyway. The work day concluding at 2ish affords the opportunity to do all those other things before dinner... including golf... and now I have more options, like attending my youngest son's sporting events, Sox and Cubs afternoon games, seeing my wife, family and friends and much more "traditional" hours, not 9:00 on a weeknight.

4. Lineup "balance." In the Score's best days.... two very different shows operated in midday and afternoon drive. They complimented each other well. When Mike and Dan gave Terry and me the baton, we were in good shape. It was a damn solid block between 10a and 6p. While the shows were unique, there was a common fraternity house feel to both. And the transitions were a big part of the station's positive image. This new show will be a befitting table setter to a strong afternoon show and B&B have that. And the opportunity for them to shift the balance of power in PM drive is right there.

Whose going to be spinning the dials for you guys? Slappy said you wanted him to do it but he didn't know what to do with all money you'd be paying him.

Why 5 hours? Or 4 and the crosstalk? Seems a bit long.

That extra hour should go to Murph. That way both yourself & B&B would be forced to do crossover with him plucked right between your shows.

I'm surprised Punch & Judy haven't found a home. Great place would be on the webio, with simulcast on another of Harvey Wells' stations.
