Mac was talking about how unimportant one game is in the scheme of an MLB season, and while I understand what he means didn't the White Sox need a one-game playoff last season because they finished tied with the Twins? That's not an uncommon occurrence in MLB, is it? If one of those teams had won just one more of those "meaningless" games that could have been avoided.

I always hear people say that games in April and May don't matter, but that always seemed silly to me given the apparent need for a 163rd game.

In 05 is was the way the Sox played in April and May that kept them from loosing the division to Cleavland in September.
