It's not Kentucky B-Ball, it's discussing the clear cut best college player against our local star. I don't care (or know) one bit about Kentucky ball, but John Wall is as exciting as it comes.

Should I know who he is? Yeah. Am I embarrassed I don't? No. What I get a kick out of is people telling me it's my job to know these things. Scanning my contract this morning to see if there's any language on college basketball requirements. My job is to keep people listening. Some hosts accomplish that by analyzing sports. Some hosts fail to do that by analyzing sports. My record is pretty good doing sport,s but more importantly, entertaining. I'll take what we did with the Hawks limo adventure over John Wall in the "who gets more listeners?" derby.

+100000000

John Wall talk (most basketball talk for that matter) is usually the first thing that causes me to go to XRT when I'm at work

Mac: Can I have a word with you, here?
Mitch Rosen: Sure.
Mac: See, I've got it right here in my contract. It says, "I don't have to do any calisthenics that I don't feel are necessary." So what do you think about that?
Mitch Rosen: [drops the contract on the ground and urinates on it, then walks off]

Totally understandable. I actually don't think there is much to discuss with Wall, especially now... which is why I thought it was interesting you guys took the call at all.

Anyhow, I don't think it's "your job" to know Wall by any means, just saying as a fan, you should tune in. The kid is special.

On the surface that makes sense, but as alluded to... the gas station talk likely would pull in more listeners than John Wall analysis.

exactly. phones exploded on the topic because EVERYBODY relates to getting gasoline, unlike college basketball. thanks for driving home my point, KD. good movie analogy, dolphin. i haven't seen a few good men in too long.

I dont know anything about bringing in listeners. But, if you consider yourself a sports fan, you're missing out if you arent watching John Wall.

You could make that argument about any sport until you reach the final destination that you are WGN.

I didn't hear the segment but that is a dangerous train of thought.

We take the good calls. I find myself usually turning away 2/3 for sheer stupidity. Also, I think our time slot has a lot of people at work, listening at their desks. The volume of calls is not what it was on the Saloon, or even Murph, who would lure the lunch crowd with his "pick a lane", "rifleman", etc bits...all of which were the exact same, repackaged, for the sole purpose of generating phone reaction. That was his top goal every day. Fill the phones. We don't "spoon feed" phone topics. It's two guys talking sports, spraying to all fields. If you feel inclined, call. You're not going to hear a "who's your favorite Cub/Sox player?" If that's what you're looking for, it's out there...but not on this show. Lots of callers does not a good show make.

It's just your jive talkin'. You're telling me lies, yeah.
Jive talkin', you wear a disguise.
Jive talkin', so misunderstood, yeah.

That's the stupidest fucking thing I've ever heard from the host of a show on a sports talk station.

why is it stupid? u think college basketball is a big mover in chicago? if so, you're stupid. in the winter, everything we do has a tune out factor. hockey? not for everybody. bulls? same thing. spring training preview? not for everybody. bears coaching search? same thing. fact is, smartass, only baseball season and bears season produce daily events that have mass appeal. now go back to your knitting.

Strongly disagree Mac-ee. Chicago has proven its love for basketball Maybe not college becaise its so bad but the bulls have sucked for well over ten years and the UC still sells out. And the Illini games in the UC draw big as well. Wall is a stud and prob better than allstar Derrick Rose. We watch college b ball. Its too bad someone making the "millions" that you and terry make cant watch two hours of cage ball while you do an incline workout on your treadmill. Most of us think we can do your job but we're probably kidding ourselves. But if we did your job, watching a college game of the tube while knocking down a brew or ten, would be easy. I'm a fan Dan and I listen when I can but do your job. Its a sports station.
