I am going to guess that Larry does not like being called lo ho, by Mr. Spiegel, but then again I am going to guess Kerry Sayers does not like Larry calling her out for not showering today. Very few people on radio get me to PTFB, but Larry is the one on all of sports talk radio that stirs that effort for me. He produces some really bad radio. I emphasize PRODUCE, because he works at it, but it stinks.

He's unlistenable. It's days like this I wish there was more than 1 sportstalk radio station in Chicago. 620 in Milwaukee only comes in at night.

Where does your hate for ESPN 1000 come from?

Just Curious

Would rather have had Vandy or Jason Goff sitting in. Mac crapped himself when he said "Im all for producers to get air time" .. Should of let Zawaski or Goff sit in then . Larry is the white version of Bernstein.

Please Dan......PLEASE.......no more Holmes. Due to lack of options I didn't PTFB and it was a painful listen. Spiegs even sounded a bit subdued, kind of like he wasn't really having fun. Vandy, Goff, anyone but Holmes.

And I finally figured out what the main thing that bugs me about Holmes (among many): no sense of humor/personality whatsoever. Everyone on the station throws out some funny lines at some point but not LoHo. He's not entertaining.

That's four hours on the transistor rechargeables I won't get back. Lesson learned.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I just don't get the Laurence Holmes hatred that permeates this board.

Stu, Jason Goff is on tonight from 10p-1a on 670 The SCORE & 670thescore.com, complete with a new open...With LoHo sitting in for Mac today, Brian "The Whipping Boy" Paruch sits in Laurence's chair from 6-10p this eve with Dan Hampton. Laurence's name still appears in the 6-10p time slot according to the 670thescore.com schedule, but trust me on this one.

It's the first of 3 straight days that Paruch becomes a host on The SCORE. He & Steve Rosenbloom host their regular Saturday morning shift from 8a-12Noon and "Whip" sits in for Chris Rongey tomorrow for 45 minutes of "White Sox Weekly" before the DePaul/Syracuse game that LoHo & Zach Zaidman provide the descriptions. If that's not enough, Paruch & Barry Rozner build a bridge to Westwood One's coverage of the Pro Bowl Sunday 3-6p from the Horseshoe Casino in Northwest Indiana.

You know why I don't get the Laurence hate, or you know why the board hates him?

Hate is a strong word. I for one, am of the opinion that Laurence is a bad talk show host. I don't hate the man, but I hate when he's on the radio for an extended period of time. I hate his, what I believe to be, fake tough guy/just to cool attitude he sometimes takes on. I hate that he mimics Bernstein at almost every turn, and I hate that he tries to impress his listeners with his inside info on who Tommie Harris tried to get with. (Jennifer Hudson I believe.) I know I should PTFB, and I do. I sometimes come back though, because I'm a sports radio junkie.

I've long held the same radio "hate" for Jessie Rogers, but I'm no longer subjected to his on air shifts, so my distaste has somewhat dissipated.

If LoHo is so bad, why is he always atop the fill-in list whenever Mac, Terry & Dan B. need a breather? Can't LoHo pinch hit for Dan Patrick next month when D.P. is part of NBC Sports' Winter Olympic coverage in Vancouver?

This is kinda what has me scratching my head at times. How does "mimicking Bernstein" manifest itself? Exactly what does he do? This is a legit question. The reason I ask is because I think Holmes and Bernstein have two completely different styles. Berns is more of the intellectual guy and Laurence wants to be cool and be everybody's friend. That doesn't strike me as mimickry.

He's a sports nerd posing as a cool guy...if he just embraced his inner Les, he'd probably be happier with himself and his listeners with him. I can see why he does what he does. He's single, wants some poon and is still trying to establish himself in the business. Still, whatever you might think of Les, he's always had a job and has found several women to marry him.

His treatment of callers and his presentation of breaking new ground or enlightening us all on a certain topic is what I'm referring to. I "hate" Bernstein for doing this too, though I think he succeeds more than Laurence does in this department. Saying he mimics him at almost every turn is wrong to say, I should have worded it better. Laurence does do his own bits and touches on topics that others at the Score don't, so I should have given him more credit than relying on the Laurence argument crutch. I just don't like his show. I'll fully admit, that when he told us all that he was likely to throw a punch, he probably lost me for good.

It's possible then, that my reaction to his show is biased, but my taste for his work is not.

That's fine. That's about the best explanation I've seen. And I do understand where you're coming from. I guess it just doesn't bother me. Much of what bothers people about sports radio personalities doesn't bother me.

Holmes is nowhere near as talented as Bernstein is. It's like bad acting.

As Im hearing the theme from "Shaft" on my weather channel forecast I'll say LoHo does a nice job as a reporter but I didn't think he was all that bad when he sat in with Mac but Spiegs and LoHo together was young lad radio and I got bored fast an turned on FM radio.

I never liked Finji getting air time at 1000 when Mac was forcing him down our throats as I didn't find him interesting or to have any radio presence and how did that turn out for him?? ..I like Finji as a person but was not over the top with his radio presence...

I guess you could call Vandy the Mac clone because he has that same witty, quick, goofy afinity for refs and that sohpomoric wit that Mac does but it works for me as I think it's fuuny stuff. For each his or her own but to be honest I have not turned on 1000 that often since Mac came over and that sez something about the appeal of what Mitch and the Score has brouht back to the table at 670.

"He's bad," to me, is a good reason.

I think, too, having the 6-10pm guy be the go-to fill in guy for the daytime shows is a mistake. Presumably, you want the 6-10pm show to build and maintain momentum. If you (as the PD) thought LoHo is the guy for that slot, you keep him in that slot. If he's gone frequently, filling in for others, then he's not there building the slot's momentum. As the consumer of a show, I prefer continuity of talent: I don't want to have to tune in to see if its a host I like, then opt to PTFB

Its the same mistake they made with Hood, where he popped up, filling in anywhere, and eventually filling in full-time on the Telander show. Hood took his lumps, but part of the blame for that also goes to management. Why make the same mistake again? What, learning from mistakes ISN'T ALLOWED?!? That's just bull.

Who could've sat in the passenger seat? Paruch, Bartosch, Rongey, Vandy... I'm not so keen on Goff filling in, as now you have to fill in his producer slot on B&B for the day (same also for Drinky.)

And really, Matt *can* do solo shows, just fine.
