Post subject:  Sports Etiquette

Like it or not, there is an etiquette when attending all sporting events.

1. You should not pass through the section during play. Baseball makes it easy, as you can go between pitches, but that can be abused if done too much. Football, you don't bust a move when they snap the ball. You wait until the play is over and make your move. Hockey/Basketball, wait for a line change/sub, a whistle, a timeout, etc.

2. You help out passing money and beers so people dont need to get up, HOWEVER, this right should not be abused by the vendor and asking fans to pass 12 seats down to the other side for a guy sitting on the aisle side 1 section over. Abuse of this rule can be a violation as well.

3. Remove Your Dam Hat, You Commie Pinko!

4. CELL PHONES!
a) Always can have exceptions, as one guy that sits with me is a doctor, so I will allow the possible death to stop good game flow, but even then, as a very important business call, should be taken into the concourse.

b) Standing up during the game, waving to your friend who is 3 sections over, while you talk to them! SIT THE FUCK DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

c) The "Hey I am on TV behind the plate" guy! Waving , every pitch , calling everyone you know asking them to turn on the TV. One day, some pitcher is going to ask for this guys removal and this will be my new favorite player.

5. The "SHOOT!!!!" Guy. Yelling Shoot in Hoops or Pucks everytime your team is on offense is the most annoying thing you can do!

6. Swearing isn't cool. I am not talking about giving up the walkoff homer resulting in a "Fuckkk!", but I am talking about the guy who stands up and gives a swearing tirade, as if Ozzie can hear him from section 532!

7. Decide what you and your kids, wife, buddies, GF's want to eat BEFORE YOU GET TO THE FRONT OF THE LINE concession stand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

8. Guy at Wrigley "Hey, is anyone sitting in that seat?"
Me "Nope"
Guy at Wrigley "Great" as he proceeds to sit down
Me "But that doesn't mean you are"

9. Pictures! You want to take pictures, Fine. Between innings, periods, halftime, pre game, post game.

10. Use the proper drink holder! Most people are righties, thus the drink holder is the one on the right for your seat. If you fuck this up, it can screw up the whole section.

Feel free to add your own
6.

Maybe you can type these up and start handing them out at all sporting events.

Also, don't show up to the bleachers at Wrigley one minute before the first pitch and expect to jam your way into a prime spot.

What if they're taking pictures of the players on the field/court? I assume you're talking about people taking pics of themselves and friends during play. Yeah, that's lame and very inconsiderate. Karma would dictate a person getting hit by a foul ball or other errant object in this instance.

If you don't have a rooting interest in the game, you root root root for the home team.
When I go to Sox games, I root for the Sox even though I am a well known Cubs fan. I suspect my Sox fan friends will do the same and have (FavreFan always roots for the Cubs when at Wrigley) each time I've gone to the game with Sox fans.

If you go to a game, don't wear a (opposite) team sucks shirt. Leave your Zambrano/Gullen mows my lawn at home too. Same goes for the Calvin pissing on Logo shirt. That's an instant  .

So what if I keep score at the game? Fuck you, I'm not the dork you are.

If that's true, it's got 1911 friends that are running a VERY close second.
You are a meatball through and through aren't ya? I wouldn't want to sit next to you for a game anyhow.

What's the board opinion on wearing just a Sox hat to a Cubs game when the Cubs are playing someone other than the Sox or vice versa? I was at a Sox/Indians game last year and there were two guys DECKED out in Cubs gear. I started chirping at them and finally the rest of the section got on them.

There have been many things written here much dumber than supposing that White Sox fans would/should root for the Cubs if they neutrally visit Wrigley Field, but that is pretty silly, one would have to admit. No they won't, and I'd boo the Sox at Comiskey if they were playing the Twins. I don't care. Shiv me, asswipe.

I agree with and abide by all of these, but I'll note that line changes per se happen on the fly and hence they are not opportunities to return to your seat as if it were a stoppage. That's all.

I don't think a hat is a violation of mancode subsection sports etiquette.

I'm goin to a Sox/Indians game in a few weeks, and I will be rooting for the Sox. I won't wear no damn Sox hat though. Nor will I wear any Cubs gear for that matter. It's only polite to my hosts.

I honestly don't give a rat's ass as to what jersey somebody where's to a sporting event. To each his or her own.

What bothers me is somebody's poor behavior at a game. Haven't we all learned what Bill and Ted have taught us? Be excellent to one another. :eye:

I think anyone that owns any of those things should immediately evaluate their lives and adjust as appropriate.

Back in '03 I showed up to a friends place for Game 3 of the NLDS between the Cubs and the Braves wearing full Cards gear...I got a few dirty looks, but they got over it once they realized I was there rooting for the Cubbies.
