disease?

Not/never been/never will be a Cubs fan, so I don't follow these things that closely and maybe I heard wrong. But seems if Santo is ill, Spiegel mocking him on the radio (or anywhere, really) is in poor taste (and I noez of what I speak when I speak of po' taste).

Now lets all laugh at the legless S.O.B.

You are right. It's very poor form. If you want to argue that maybe he shouldn't be the radio color guy for a major market team with his deteriorating health then that's fine. Really uncomfortable radio though

I'm sure Meatpants wasn't mocking Ronnie. Mac assured me that only happens on another show.

Sherminator took Boo Boo and Wheezy to task about this a few years back.

No shit--no legs? Harsh. At least if Santo hears it and gets po'd, Spiegel has a shot at outrunning him.

I'm a big Cubs fan (and I went to school with Linda Santo -- you're happy for me!!), but I'm sorry, he shouldn't be on the radio anymore. And when you are a public figure, you open yourself up to criticism.

My dad was a "brittle" diabetic (blood sugars nearly unmanageable), and he died young. But it was from complications of diabetes, not the disease itself. I don't think it directly affects the brain.

And, frankly, I think the Matt/Mac Pat/Ron parody is incredibly funny!!!

I didn't hear them say anything about his legs or diabetes. I heard Meatpants immitating his horrible broadcasting style. Pretty sure that has more to do with him being very bad at his job, not the disease....

santo is the worst! I sympathize with his condition & plight, but get him off the radio please.

Picking on the disabled usually is.
Have you heard the one about Helen Keller falling down a well?
Yeah, she broke three fingers trying to yell for help.

So what? How many times has he missed how a runner got on base, or forgotten the score, or hell forgot that a run or runs have even been scored? Thats due to being a bad broadcaster and not diabetes. He is a living mascot and its a tragedy that a guy like Pat Hughes has to spend half of his time calling a game and half of it babysitting.

bernsie just ripped on santo for not taking care of his "diabeetus" in a more responsible manner.

And he'd probably miss a lot more if he had gout. Maybe it's a good thing he has no feet.

He should.

Santo tries to use his Diabetes to his advantage (i.e. the Hall of Fame), but did nothing to try and take care of himself during his career.

If he took care of himself, he would still have both of his feet.

Noticed that right after I posted.

Seriously, though. Wasn't said in a disrespectful way. Dan just said he wished their were a different face for Juvenile Diabetes research. I can understand that...

Was Martin Short an asshole for the way he made fun of another old, sick person (katherine Hepburn)?

Took a break from the nonstop hockey to make fun of the easiest target in the city. Bravo, Rubble.

I am surprised that someone like Mackeyfish, who gets so upset at poor taste humor about his son, wouldn't stop Meatpants and tell him how offended he is.

Mac says disabilities, like drug addiction and autism, are nothing to laugh at.

And, for the record, I like Santo. I like listening to Pat and Ron more than I like the crap in the White Sox booth (radio or tv). And I'm a Sox fan.

I didn't hear Meatpants mock Santo's diabetes. Maybe he was just slamming him for being a horseshit broadcaster which is fair regardless of how many legs a guy has.

Anyway, I posted here that it seemed to me that anything was fair game on Mac's show except autism and mental illness. Mac politely responded that they don't make fun of anyone's problems on his show and that I must be thinking of another show (we all know what show that would be).

My view is either you don't mock anyone's troubles or you mock everything. The surest way to offend people is to pick and choose what can be laughed at.

I don't think I remember Spiegel making fun of Santo's diabetes or the fact he has no legs.

He is making fun of the fact that Santo is a horseshit announcer. And he was a horseshit announcer when he had legs.

I noticed a good portion of the criticism is from people who didn't actually hear the bit...
