I heard M. Speigal mention that he was attending the Pitchfork Festival on Sunday night. I was there last night as well. I could not help but notice that the Detroit Tiger were heavily represented. Caps, t-shirts and even tatoos.

Pretty pathetic showing by White Stocking fans.

LCD Soundsystem play that night? James Murphy draws a lot of influence from Detroit techno and as a result a lot of fans from Detroit as well. Maybe fans made the trek over and stayed for the weekend.

I recall when LCD would play the Empty Bottle back in the day they'd close with a cover of Carl Craig's Paperclip People's 'Throw'.

Spiegal went out on a work night, and made it in the next day?

Judging from the time the hipster hordes made their Night of the Living Dead Hipsters trudge through the neighborhood to the trains, I'd guess the whole thing was over before Adult Swim even started.

Btw, Squidbillies had a special half-hour musical special last night, with several alt-country types like DBT and the guy from the Old 97's contributing tunes.

can you define what a hipster is or do you just use that term because it is hip to do so?

Possibly a fedora.
Canned PBR
Clothes from 1960-1969.
Generally unkempt.

I see...
so, what would you classify this?

faded 12 year old hawks sweater (blood stains included).
freshly grass stained gym shoes.
canned PBR.
beard in progress.
generally unkempt.
trust fundless.

:P

That's pretty much what I'd go with. Can I add to that the black-rimmed non-prescription glasses?

No PBR at pitchfork......meaning there were thousands of sad people there on Saturday.

In addition to the large % of "hipsters" (or whatever we call them), that was the largest gathering of, um, "liberals" that I have been around in one spot since my undergrad days. :D

Summerfest has good food, but I swear to god, I had the best Pad Thai (vegetarian - only option they had) I've ever had in my life at Pitchfork. And it was served in a cardboard boat....I also got an order of bruschetta that was bigger than an order you'd get at a normal italian joint, and it was fresh! The wife got some kind of roasted veggie panini thing that was good, but it had squash on it. Spanky no-likey squash. She also got some kind of "watermelon lemonade" which was actually just a giant overflowing cup of chunks of watermelon filled with fresh-squeezed lemonade.

A $40 cover charge just to go somewhere and eat would be a little much, but I swear I could have just eaten for hours there.

Darko is probably the second least "hip" guy on this board. I'm first.

Well let's see.
I have a couple non-bloodstained Blackhawks jerseys, but the mid 90's version shows I'm not a bandwagoner so I like it. Plus, the blood makes it look cool.
The shoes. yeah. I buy a pair of shoes maybe once ever 5 years. Those gym shoes were purchased in 2005. I have a 3 year old paid of Docs too. I get my money's worth. Partially because I am excessively cheap. Partly because I don't find shoes comfortable until they're broke in well.
PBR was $12.99/30 pack when I last brought it over. I usually bring you your favorite libation though. Very non hipstery.
Yeah, I like the beard though. It's, as Dan Mac said "rugged". Sweet.
Unkempt. Can't defend that.

Always the worst, hipsters who don't think they're hipstsers, like this hipster chick singing an anti-hipster song called 'Hipster Bitch':

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3OkmZMejdY

According to this song, the “Hipster Bitch” wears daisy dukes, compares her poetry to Dylan, and snorts cocaine at overpriced New York bars? Or do hipsters wear flannels, play accoustic guitar, call people out for misquoting Dylan, and post their songs on YouTube?

C. Both.

Hipsters wear courdoroy pants to a concert where its 95 degrees outside.

The outdoor show is the only time they see the sun.

Every band you like, they liked 5 years ago.

Post subject:  Re: Pitchfork Festival

Hipster is a slang term that first appeared in the 1940s, and was revived in the 1990s and 2000s often to describe types of young, recently-settled urban middle class adults and older teenagers with interests in non-mainstream fashion and culture, particularly alternative music, indie rock, independent film, magazines such as Vice and Clash, and websites like Pitchfork Media. In some contexts, hipsters are also referred to as scenesters.

"Hipster" has been used in sometimes contradictory ways, making it difficult to precisely define "hipster culture" because it is a "mutating, trans-Atlantic melting pot of styles, tastes and behavior[s]."[1] One commentator argues that "hipsterism fetishizes the authentic" elements of all of the "fringe movements of the postwar era—beat, hippie, punk, even grunge," and draws on the "cultural stores of every unmelted ethnicity" and "gay style", and "regurgitates it with a winking inauthenticity."
