Does anyone listen to this show for sports?

Or is it-

Old movie references?
Old music references?
Grilling tips?
Name brand possession references?

Why do you listen?
1,2,3,4 or 5.

Better than, "pedophile boy scouts for 100, Alex."

It's a sports show on a sports station. I could live without the constant music references to 30 years ago.

I listen because I am usually entertained.

Some people are entertained by the afternoon show's constant berating of callers. That has nothing to do with sports. I'll generally listen to the Afternoon Saloon on my rides home because Jurko is still hilarious most of the time whether he is talking about sports or not.

Honest answer from a non-alser:
I listen for all the above. I liked Mac with Jurko and Tiny better because they kept a lot of the negativity out. Spiegs is good, but not with Mac. I like similar music, movie and foods Mac discusses. I enjoy grilling at home and tailgating, so stories and tips interest me. I enjoy hearing stories of his kids and good things in life he enjoys. I have met Mac a few times (though I am no Doug LOL) and he is the same in life as on the air (unlike certain penguin like guys) which makes listening to the ancillary stuff enjoyable because it is real.
4 hours of just sports would be a bit much. So why not listen to an honest guy discussing similar interests? Except skynard.

6. To hear hilarious play on words like "I went to school with a guy named less movement" and "I used to play basketball with less awareness" and who can forget "I once sucked the cock of a guy named less running game".

Comedy gold right there!

I don't really listen to the show that much.... when I do, I still get some of the vibe I got early on. SPEAGOL (think lord of the rings), to me, tries hard to be the sidekick. Early on I thought he was doing his Bernstein-Lite schtick, but as time wore on he saw how the Mac show operates so you've gotta be more MAN OF THE PEOPLE and homely and "It's Biscuit Storytime, everyone!" and by and large, he just seems to really try and be BFFs with Mac, likely tryin'ta promote the friendly "pull up a chair" environment that became en vogue during MJH.

Quite honestly, after some sports happening the night before I don't find myself waking up wondering "Gee, I wonder what Danny Mac thinks" like I admittedly do with B&B. I think Mac has his demo and works it for all it's worth, but like, while being ~20x better at radio than he is, I can see some elements of NORT in the whole Mac experience.... although Mac seems to be waaaayyy more genuine and infinitely less of a self-important douche than is NORT.

This is the focal point of any Mac-based show. The average middle-aged guy with a beer-belly and mustache wants to wax poetic about the 85 Bears, not discuss Gavin Floyds WHIP or Adam Dunn's wins above replacement with a dickhead like Bernstein. He's playing to his crowd. The problem is that 4 hours of Hard Hawk Hockey nets 5 minutes of interesting radio, while B&B shitting on Joe from Evanston would make anyone laugh.

Both shows have their ups and downs. I catch at least 2 hours of the Mac show live every day, and only 30 mins of B&B.

The difference is that I will go back and listen to the B&B podcast when I know there is interesting, intelligent, in-depth sports talk occuring. I will not invest that energy to hear Blackhawks wrap-up or thoughts from the comedic Juggernaut that is "Jonny Fontane".

Call me old fashioned, but the Hawks are still gay, and I don't give a shit about Rush. I have spent hundreds of hours listening to this man talk purely because I think he's funny.
