First of all I feel terrible for Daryls family and friends.
I was never a fan of his work but he seemed like a good guy.

The second I heard he passed I thought about the weird interview Mac did with him.
I would love to hear it again to confirm my memory.
I couldn't do it justice by describing it but it was way out of line and Daryl handled it great.

I give Mac credit for somewhat admitting to his mistake today.
I'm guessing he's matured since the day Harry Caray died.................

I remember that interview as well and was curious what if anything Mac
would say about him after his death. Hope he was kind.

Mac was pretty hard on him, and Daryl handled it with absolute class. Mac acknowledged this today. I don't hold it against Mac. Truth be told, I thought he was pretty bad at his job. I certainly never hoped or expected him to pass so young. I'm pretty secure in saying Mac didn't either.

This interview had to do with NBC pregame coverage of the Winter Classic and it not being in HD I believe.

I thought it had to do with Mac & Bernsy when they were on opposite stations commenting on the Bears/Colts' debut a couple years ago on NBC5's "Sports Sunday", when the show was stretched out into a 45-minute postgame after NBC's "Sunday Night Football"...

You cant worry about someone dying at age 38 unexpectedly when interviewing someone

If I recall, Mac was ripping Hawk for being....what he was....hyper-peppy, ex-jock, not-very-bright sounding. Within a couple of days, Hawk called in to the show. As other said, he handled it pretty well (and to is credit, Mac didn't back down from his stance). I don't think Mac's opinion changed of him (mine didn't), but I certainly respected that Hawk had the balls to call in and challenge Mac on what he said.

Hawks' work was awful. The guy may have been a nice guy and I feel sorry for the wife and childen he leaves behind, but his death doesn't make the quality of his work while alive any better.

I never understood the Daryl Hawks professional hate. He didn't seem like a phony guy, read sports news for 3 minutes without falling over and seemed like he embraced the community by doing things off camera. Sad loss.

Completely agree.

Mac didn't like him, and that probably influenced a lot of people's opinions.

Come on, Tad Queasy. My opinion of Hawks influenced others' opinions of him? This "fraternity" is a lot of things, but not being able to reach own's own opinion independently is not among them.

You need to stay for the Game 1 chat tonight. It would be a thing.

still haven't heard a word on his death. i suspect he pushed himself too hard...maybe he had an undiagnosed heart condition and it got him.
