Gumballhead is great. It's been my favorite for about a year now.

It wasnt always that way. Last year we got growlers of it on a regular basis. Too many people discovered it.

They make good beer but their prices turned me off back in the day when I could get all of the So Cal beers for less. I always felt like top tier beers should be expensive but you should have some reasonably priced session beers as well. For example I expect to pay out the ass for Hopslam or Expedition from Bells but I can get a reasonably priced sixer of porter or ipa. With TF I always got the vibe everything was priced like a top tier specialty beer even if it wasn't one. The recently began stocking some TF at the beer store here in Ohio but It was something like a 20 dollar bomber of behemoth so I passed. I can get a bomber of Alesmith Speedway Stout, old numbskull or horny devil for 12.99 at the same place. Why is TF so god damn expensive when a brewery like Alesmith which is a smaller scale brewery, further away and generally rates higher is cheaper by 5 dollars or so?

A lot of it is the way they market/produce their bears. They under produce many different types of varieties of their beer which gets people talking and then they can jack up prices. Multiple times I've gone to Binny's looking for a 6 pack of Gumballhead or something else only to come up empty.

I've been drinking a lot of Two Brothers Brewery lately. They have a lot of delicious options for significantly cheaper than TF

I've never seen Gumballhead at Binny's ever. I've got a guy though...

Robert the Bruce is good. All of their stuff is good. Zombie Dust is tough to get. Pride & Joy and Alpha King are usually the easiest to find. Try the Panser Wolf too - that will get you where you need to be as well.

Gumballhead is the best of their stuff, IMO. But if the hipsters like douchebag are claiming it, I may have to move on to something else.

*I know it has it's own thread, but I strongly encourage all of you beer drinkers to try the Bell's HopSlam before it's all gone for the year. THAT is my favorite beer.

Last time I was there I talked to one of the employees, I guess people know the days they get certain deliveries of X beer from TF and they are usually sold out by noon.

TF tweeted the other day they had Zombie Dust at like 3pm. My buddy drove out there, got there by 5 and they were sold out. Said he saw guys walking out with like 10 cases at 40$ a pop.

I've mentioned this one before but I will again -

$6/bottle at Binny's and sometimes on sale for $5, if you can find it. I always buy them out when I do.

The problem with Binny's is that they are so big/popular, if you go there looking for a specific type of popular beer - it's gone before they put it on the shelves. I've gotten Gumballhead at the Binny's by me a couple times by asking for it on delivery day. They run in the back and bring it out.

I have better luck at the local mom/pop shops when it comes to finding the "hot " beers. This little dive by me has had HopSlam the last 3 times I went there.

That would be called "Gumball Machine Head".

I wasn't listening so what did Mac or Meat say to provoke this discussion on TF Beers?

It is harder to find a better value when accounting for quality and price.

Get friendly with some people at your local Binny's. They always have extra beers in the back, and if you ask nicely, you may just get something that you don't see on the shelf.

Werd. I drink the shit out of their beer. Living only a ten minute walk from their brewery certainly makes things easy for me. I went up there last night, and had two Resistance IPAs on tap. Glorious.

Mac has mentioned on several occasions that he frequents their brewpub.

My Binny's usually has Robert the Bruce and Pride and Joy in stock (along with bombers of the Panzer Wolf and Dreadnaught.) Alpha King and Gumballhead are hit or miss. They sold out of their last allotment of Hopslam in a day. Anybody heard when the next batch of that is arriving? I heard sometime next week.

I'm pretty sure the DiCarlo's in Mundelein always has Alpha King and GumballHead. I was drinking Hopslam drafts at Firkin in Libertyville a week and a half ago. 8)
