Mac, what were you doing on my train this morning?

Anyway, they'll talk about stuff in sports that happened yesterday. DaMaNaa was reading the sports section so I'd imagine he'll talk about something someone wrote.

Tune in, maybe...

Does no one listen to this show anymore? Good Cubs discussion going on right now.

Mac is embarrassed thaf Baines' number is retired but he's fine with retiring Konerko's? Paulie won't have the career Baines did. Baines was a lot better than a lot of people seem to remember.

:D I think you may get some disagreement from White Sox fans here. That doesnt mean theyre racist.

I just tuned in, had some work to do earlier and had some tunes on. Should have it on until 3pm.
The show has been better but still hit or miss depending on what happened with local sports. There
is rarely any national talk to plug in the empty shows.

The show is more enjoyable with Ben Finfer subbing for Spiegel actually. I could listen to this. I usually don't.

.283 with 404 HR and .862 OPS
or
.289 with 384 HR and .820 OPS

I would say Paulie is having Baines career and then some, JORR.

Baines and Konerko are both short of being HOFers. When and where they play(ed) has to be considered. No way is Konerko a better offensive player in his time tham Baines was in his. And first base defense doesnt merit mention. Baines was an elite right fielder with a rocket arm before his knees went. Granted, most of his career he was a DH. Theyre both offensive players and thats how they should be judged. Retiring ones numbet is no different than retiring the others.

Except that Konerko is still playing and might be able to play another 3-5 years to get to 500, 510 HRs. He does that and he's gonna get in, especially if he wins another WS.

ALCS MVP, World Series Grand Slam and leader of 2005 champs tilts the field toward PK as well.

I think he'll be hard-pressed to get to 500, but even if he does, I just don't see him as a Hall of Famer. I would compare him to guys like Rocky Colavito or Frank Howard. They're real good players but just a little short. Five hundred used to be a Hall of Fame benchmark. I'm not sure it is in the post-steroid era.

Which opens up another conversation. There will probably be guys who get in with lesser numbers simply because they were considered "clean"- whether they were or not. Paulie might fit that category. I'm not sure how fair that is. We're leaving it up to guys like Rick Telander to decide who was cheating and who wasn't. Who does and doesn't get into Cooperstown is going to get very interesting pretty quick here.

If you haven't seen the Tribune today, it's a must see. Teddy has a article about playing golf with Mac and Meat. The picture is really special. Had never seen Meat before, outside of the headshots on the website and in the Herald, mercy. Didn't know he was was that huge, that's a rough go.

I side with you on this JORR. I think it should be much tougher to get into the HOF. I don't think passing a treshold (such as 500 HR or 300 wins) should make entry automatic. And I don't think the fact that you're slightly better than someone else who made it but probably shouldn't be in is a good argument either. My criteria would be that a player had to definitively be one of the best in his era. It has to be someone who immediately jumps to mind without caveats or team considerations. Frank Thomas, for instance, should be in because he is recognized without question as one of the best hitters of his generation. PK has been a very good player and a fan favorite...but that's not enough IMO.

Edit: I do agree with Frank, however, that if PK remains a top line player AND leads a team (hopefully the Sox) to another World Series then he has a good chance.

Ok, I just read that article. This is what passes for newspapers now? Fluff pieces about your media pals. You suck my balls I'll sack tap you later on. But I did find it amusing to know Spiegs golfed for years with women's clubs. It's so fitting.

Finfer with Mac is really a very good show. Finfer totally relaxed, not his usually hyped up self. Stated this before.

Trib article is short and just a light hearted look at playing with a couple of radio jocks.
There is video of Mac's swing on a par 3 and a short 90 second interview with them after
the round. Looked like a pretty nice course. None of what was printed is big news for
fans of the show but was nice to see them get a little pub in the paper.
