It was on his tv, but he wasn't paying much attention.

"FLORIO! FLORIO!" That might be my favorite of Mac & Spiegs' parody songs introducing the George Stephanopoulos-looking ProFootballTalk.com scribe...

I listened to the end of that Celtics/Heat game up the dial after the Blue Jays put the White Sox to bed. By the way, $5 tickets to the upper deck reserved? Only 23,107 TICKETS SOLD for the opener at the Cell last night.

Nope. No shame at all. I try to avoid it like the plague.

Even Friday night at the bar, I was watching the Sox and Brewers games on the TV's next to the NBA and I was able to successfully avoid watching any of it.

That's nothing compared to when Boers says he won't watch the Super Bowl.

I haven't watched a Super Bowl since the last time the Bears played in one.

Easily the most overrated & overhyped sporting event every year.

I live halfway to Milwaukee from downtown, anyway.

That's foolish plain and simple. Avoid all the pregame bullshit and its fine.

Isn't she about to go on maternity leave after this week? Couldn't Mac & Spiegs loan Joe Bartosch from 'BBM to do updates on this show once Kerry signs off, I think Friday? Then again, what the hell is Matt Rodewald doing after he signs off on NBC5's own version of "The Today Show"?

He's paid to talk from 9-1. Doesn't bother me in the least he didn't watch the game. Spiegs did obviously.

The two week wait, and bad talk from people that know nothing about football, just makes me want to avoid it altogether every year.

Conference Championship Weekend > Super Bowl Sunday
It's not even close.

I'll take the Puppy Bowl, and whatever I need to catch up with on my DVR.

It doesn't bother me too much because i believe the Sox and Cubs were on at the same time. My problem with Mac at times is that he wasn't gonna watch last night's game regardless. Which is one of the reasons B&B has taken him over, at least on this forum. The NBA Playoffs are a big deal to a lot of people and there's not really much else going on around this time. It's really not asking alot to watch a 2.5 hour game and spend 20 minutes of the four hours the next day on it.

My point is that he is paid to watch and talk about sports. Last night was a big game, and it has dominated most of the sports talk since. If this was a game in January, I wouldn't care.

I'm just saying that it takes balls to say "Eh, I had it on as background noise, but I didn't pay it attention.....now lemme head down to Chase and deposit my 250K".

That is a gross misrepresentation of what he's saying. This was big on a national level. This is a local show. To me, the Cubs and Sox are bigger deals right now than Assbag Lebron against the Celtics. I think Mac had his priorties spot on.

So that means you don't have any problems with Boers not watching the Super Bowl? It's a local show...

I agree, spmack. They all have their weak spots, though. Mac is just more defiant about his. Left to his own devices he'd never talk about anything except football and hockey except on the four or five days a year following his attendance at a baseball game.

What you're describing is professionalism. And in the post-North (or perhaps post-Dahl) era it's sorely lacking. I heard the professionals on the Mully and Hanley show just this morning criticizing Joe Cain for thinking radio was just turning on the mics and talking sports. That's exactly what it is. That's the fucking business model. Be proud that you never held a pre-show meeting!

My guy Duane Dow has his flaws- perhaps booze and young girls among them- but he is the consummate professional when it comes to sports broadcasting. There isn't a game played on the planet that Duane couldn't discuss, including ringsteken, chessboxing, Irish dancing, and golf.

If you want LeBron/Heat chatter, put on ESPN. Radio or TV.

Also, the Super Bowl > any NBA game played

They can talk about more than one topic every four hours. Like I said, I don't think 20 minutes of four hours is an inordinate amount of time to spend on the biggest national sports story of the day. If it was like an hour or more I'd agree with you.

Was a pretty significant sporting event, he should've watched it.

20 minutes is fair enough talk time. Still don't care that Mac didn't watch it, and wasn't prepared to talk about it. If they wanted, let Spiegel have 20 minutes with Goff or Finfer or someone who actually watched and Mac could take a smoke break.

He's not the "not-lazy host". He's just the host that fetishizes NBA coaches and players. I'm sure he won't be talking about the Stanley Cup finals.
