Hopefully there was some sort of gas station incident to liven things up. |

Spiegel informed us earlier that he was far too interested in the pulled pork samiches and other delicacies while sitting in his very fancy Gold Coast box tickets yesterday to pay attention to any details of the Sox game. And now he's telling Paul Sullivan how to be a better reporter and follow up more specifically on questions. Has he ever been any kind of beat reporter? |

That should be close enough to count. |

The title of this thread and the name of this CSFMB section are not updated to reflect the fact that Matty is now 50% vested in this show, namely The McNeil and Spiegel Show. To make up for this mistake, I want next week's show thread to say, "8/13: Your Monday Meat". It can even be sponsored by Allen Brothers. |

Add Paul Sullivan to the list of people that Spiegel thinks he is better than and can therefore enhance his life by simply counseling him. Maybe Paul Sullivan would be a better reporter if he could spend a week getting Spiegel his lunch and the important lessons learned from that activity.

Couple of comments.. 1) the sullivan/demspter/theo/hoyer/colletti story is just plain stupid. Who really cares what the details / specifics were? 2) NOT defending meatpants here...but Paul Sullivan seams like more of an asshat each day. Time for him & his "smarmy" attitude to go away...or go cover another team. |

The first couple years of the show, when I listened, he seemed like a reasonably humble dude. I guess trouncing terrible "competition" and singing part time in a cover band has gotten to his enormous head. |

It seems like I can't listen for more than a day without hearing something like this. Meatpants should be proud of where he is but he's not exactly what I would consider an expert on being in radio or in the media.

Spiegel taking on Sullivan is just another media guy becoming a de facto publicist for Theo Epstein. |

I thought I remember someone posting on this board that the media and beat reporters in Chicago kept Ozzie's drinking quiet Yeah, I guess they did that. I wouldn't call that the same thing as handling public relations for a guy though. They never talked about Jordan's womanizing either. I'm talking more about job-related stuff. For example, if Guillen had used Sale for 250 pitches in a game or had ordered every batter to bunt, Cowley would have had the reason why that was the right thing to do. And it seems like for a lot of people in the Chicago media, that's where we are with Theo right now. |
