I'm sure this will be brought up in glorious fashion during transition and then used to mock the relevant idiot during the show. I for one can't wait.

I'm glad I missed this.

What I didn't get was why Mac and this coach were so against the coach from Arkansas always onside kicking and never punting. For God sakes, he won a state title doing it against better competition.

Isn't the point to win within the rules of the game? Not only that, the coach probably got some of his players and the school exposure they never would have gotten.

I don't follow high school football either, but I did find this story to be interesting. I disagree with Mac on his disdain, though.

To borrow an old phrase from Mackeyfish, "if you don't like it, stop it."

I don't buy the idea that a punter or kicker won't get recruited because if they were worth college consideration the coach might put more foot to the ball.

They're hidebound. They only know what they know and are unwilling to learn or question what they "know" to be the truth. Not unlike most of us. The same reason why managers sacrifice bunt everyday in the face of mountains of evidence that it's idiotic.

This is very true, wise old JORR.

Kickers and punters don't even need to play football to get recruited.

Matt didn't call him "Coach." I did. Always will. He was my coach.

I know the topic wasn't for everybody. That's cool. A HS coach with credibility was a good idea after the story on the Arkansas coach last week surfaced. It was 12 minutes of a day. And so it goes.

Was it a good idea to have this guy on and dredge up the story the week after you pooped your pants about it?

Strike while the iron is hot, mac!

Mac - I caught my first muskie a couple weeks ago on a walleye rig with a worm and a spinner. Who wudda thunk it?

I had no beef with the segment. I think high school football is the best level of football. I question why you think that player development of a few elite guys should trump winning football. The guy in Arkansas is proving that punting is usually foolish.

Got 'em on my wife's phone. I'll see if I can get 'em uploaded later. I was back in Illinois for a week and caught it in a small lake over by Iowa (near Galesburg, IL). I didn't even know there were muskie in there.

I grabbed it firmly and pulled as hard as I could. When she reached the surface and our eyes met, she exploded with excitement and fear leaving water everywhere. It lasted about 30 minutes, and I could barely stand up afterwards.
