Mac got his wish. Lovie Smith's out as Bears' HC. I'm sure that'll be front & center, not to mention a certain NBC Sports/ProFootballTalk.com contributor from his West Virginia home at 10A. You know, with apologies to Van Morrison & Them...

FLORIO!

Meatball mac is in full effect this morning.

He wants a guy to put points on the board and he wants him now. But no way could that be a special teams coach.

Shouldn't we want the best coach available? Maybe that will be an OC, maybe it won't be. It is possible a special teams coach could be the best coach available.

Mac should realize that this might be GM Phil Emery's ONLY chance to hire a head coach in his tenure generally managing the Chicago Bears. While Emery told reporters yesterday that "money's no object", I say B.S.! Let's not forget who still signs the checks at Halas Hall, even if George is now calling the shots as Chairman. The McCaskeys might not want to spend the kind of $$$$ other teams are prepared to do around the league. Emery can't screw this up.

The extra money a team makes for playoff games make it worth spending more for a great coach, if that guy helps the team make the playoffs on a regular basis. Think of how much additional revenue New England has received under Bill Belichick. Whatever they pay him, he's worth it.

I agree. Bill Belichick is worth the salary he receives.

What are your thoughts on Peyton Manning? Is he worth the money too?

No thanks on that. I would rather they draft the TE out of Notre Dame or the TE from Stanford

Funny how Mac wants all of these players on offense but still contends that Cutler sucks.
I also like how he's hinting about Cutler "scaring" coaching candidates away -- based on what?
Same tired anti-Cutler mantra from Mac.

He's another guy with all the tools that has under-achieved so far. Plus, he's been hurt far too often. That said, he would be one hell of an upgrade. Plus, I'll bet he would give the Bears some great games VS the Packers....trying to show them what a mistake they made to let him get away. Better to spend the money on Offensive line help though.

Why are they so focused on a head coach that calls plays? Does that not lend itself to the exact opposite problem that Lovie had. So focused on one side of the ball that they neglect the other side. Should not a head coach lead on both sides of the ball and very well may mean that they allow their Coordinators to call plays and they manage both?

The Bears have no history of paying a head coach $5 or $6 million... really Jerome?

Yea, I heard that too & was waiting for either Mac or Ben to remind him that Lovie was paid $5.5 Million per year, which they didn't do.

Bettis was hilarious. Mac asked him why you would ever pay a RB big money in today's NFL. Bettis said a good RB makes you a competitor every year. They asked him about Forte and he said you need a good QB like Cutler to complement a RB. Then he said you can't have a good QB without a stud WR and then he said you can't just have a great WR, you need a complementary one too. So basically he went from saying you just needed a stud RB to compete to needing somebody good at every skill position, excellent analysis. He hawked some Sprint shit too.
