Other tales:
  • Jim Marshall's parents relate that when he was in little league, he was obviously a very talented athlete, but he had the problem of always running to third base when he'd get a hit. In high school, Jim took up many sports -- baseball, football, golf -- in fact, he hit a hole-in-one at a divisional tournament when he was a junior, however on further review, he hit it into an adjacent hole instead of the hole he was on.
  • Nancy Kerrigan's sister Dottie recalls the time they were on the Massachusetts state fair ferris wheel as kids, and the operator swung the restraining bar down upon their legs, injuring Nancy's knee. Dottie wanted to leave immediately, but Nancy insisted on staying, claiming she had worked towards going to the state fair all year. Nancy would later go on to receive the second tier prize in ring toss.
  • George Brett's brother Bobby recalls when George was in a cooking competition in high school home economics. At the beginning of the competition, the goal was to create the best pesto. Bobby recalls that George's was fantastic -- "he hit it out of the park" -- however, one of the other competitor's father complained to the teacher to check the amount of ingredients that were used. These were purchased by the school district, and therefore strict limitations were placed on their use. After review, George had indeed used slightly too many pine nuts and was ejected from the competition. The superintendent would later overrule that judgment, and George would go on to win the contest when it was resumed about a month later.

This is why, even though he is a butt hole and most of the time he sucks, GD is one of the most beloved posters around here.
