Of course there really isn't much to do battle against seeing as most sports are over or on break. Not good. That defense about deleting comments was one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. I've never seen or read comments unless I've chosen to scroll down and view that section; most of the time I'm closing the tab once I'm done with the article. That's some weak stuff by Bernstein.

The thing is, though, the comments on Dan's columns were insipid at best and hate speech with threats at worst. It certainly wasn't a Dennis Miller pissing contest like Deadspin. If he got published there, he wouldn't turn the comments off.

Doesn't say much for Medill does it? I suspect he got it after already being an established guy at the Tribune. A guy like that has to get automatic admission. I mean real life newpaper journalists are pretty fucking rare entities. Somebody in admissions probably thought it would be good to expose the other students to one of these anachronisms.

A lot of these part time masters programs.... all you need for acceptance is the ability to qualify for a student loan or a business willing to fork over the cash for you.

They were talking to Zawaski (or was it Shepkowski?) about his latest column and Mac asked him about the comments section and played a drop of Bernsie saying "I don't care what people think." A little later he worked in a shot at Boers for his not wanting to write a column about sports.

I'm not so sure about that. He doesn't do well with debate. I don't think that's because he's stupid or incapable of making good arguments. He's just developed the bad habit of steamrolling those who disagree by controlling the conversation on his radio program, i.e., shouting over or hanging up on. Turning off the comments is merely an extension of that.
