WGN will have a huge hole in their programming once the Cubs are gawn. WGN still has the Blackhawks games? Perfect lead-in. Mac's first request to WGN: except for Mondays/Fridays/Tuesdays after a Bears win, full sabbatical until the Blackhawks season starts. |

Here's my guess. Feder said the Score has the right to match any offer. So Mac is looking for his old buddy DeCastro to give him a 500k offer to where the Score would have to match. Granted, DeCastro would have to be willing to pay it if the Score doesn't, but the Trib has money and Mac is the guy to kick start that station so he'd take that chance I guess. |

Unless I'm missing something here, and there's a good chance I am, that whole "match what ever the offer is" thing is weird. These are private corporations, not teams in a league with a common labor union. I see no reason why WGN should have to divulge what they're really paying any of their employees to CBS. Sounds more like a gentlemen's agreement than anything binding in court on WGN or Mac. And if the reason Mac wants to jump ship is because of time-slot, as is alleged below--then WSCR would be nuts to try to force a guy with Mac's history to stay on in the 9-1 slot. And let's say for shits and giggles that Mac and WSCR have some sort of legal document which allows WSCR to "match" any other offer Mac is made. Unless the language is very explicit that it's monetary remuneration only, Mac could say that he's going to afternoons WGN for the same money, or even less than what WSCR is offering because to Mac the afternoon time slot is worth more than the 9-1 timeslot WSCR is offering--irrespective of monetary comp.

So who are they gonna fire to give Mac afternoons? Payton's kid? Spike? Harry? Probably Spike. Remember, nobody at THE GAME has a contract so it will be easy to launch him. Mac will be the only one to have a contract probably. |
