It's probably true that Mannely helps with football season; I just think the impact is overstated. Are more listeners going to tune in now during middays because the Bears former long snapper is on? Is anyone really sitting in their cars at 9AM thinking "I wonder what Mannely has to say about this"? I'd be much more interested to hear the opinions of many non-players (and many former players who are already on the Score or are frequent guests on the Score).

Does he know football? Sure. Will that knowledge help to drive a conversation the day after a game a bit longer? I suppose. Does that knowledge equate to a higher listenership during NFL season? I don't know, but i don't really know why it would.
