Thanks to Tad Queasy for the timing tip.

Yeah I made a show thread just to post that in the off chance someone cared.

I know nothing of their schedule ... I just turned off Pandora because my day already seems interminable so why not compound that feeling by turning this show on?

They are currently talking to Jeremy something ... Schaap? the one that spoke in class at some point over 20 years ago? Who knows. They are talking about the inevitable launching of Lance Briggs. And now Wayne Randazo. This only gets better. I'm done live typing this show now.

I think Jeremy Schaap is the reporter who was scolded by Bobby Knight for not being more like his father, Dick Schaap.

They're going to interview Mick Foley. I hope Spiegel is condescending to him (unaware that Foley is a very bright guy) and Foley verbally eviscerates him.

I would agree with Mannelly in that I could listen to a whole hour of Foley, irrespective of the quality of the show itself.

If Spiegel is condescending I hope Foley turns into Mankind and starts screaming "MOMMY!"

Leads with "What do you not know about managing the Chicago Cubs?" ... the question, while vague, isn't terrible.
Needs to build relationships with team and staff for the sake of trust to disagree openly.

A sentence or two on the 2002 Angels

Who are you going to hire/fire?
We're working on that ... nothing terribly informative one way or the other ... 'get to know me' stage.

Clubhouse fun ... do you occasionally have to reel it in?
Never experienced such an issue as of date. The phrase that pays is the more freedom you give, the more respect and discipline you get back".

Baseball is a mental sport; how does one balance fun with discipline?
"What is discipline?" ... Lombardi yelled and screamed ... Joe doesn't want to be punitive or angry ... discipline is about consistency in communication ... which is not to say private angry talks won't ever happen ... but being a public asshole with players isn't where it's at.

What have players taught Joe?
Any number of things, bad moments being more teachable than the good times on the whole ... "Lead Bulls", aka clubhouse leaders, are the liaison conduits to the manager's message.

The importance of all the pieces that are actually available to acquire is key ... you can't always get what you want, but you find sometimes you get what you need.

Is Joe slavish to to rigid bullpen roles as a way to duck second guessing?
No ... that shit's antiquated, or at least to be rigid outside of all-time pitchers like Mariano is bad ... but the conversation about who does go where situationally needs to occur in Spring Training. This applies only a bit less so to lineups - there may be a preference, but resting and occasional creativity based on timing rather than l/r matchups is important to consider. Being static and being successful is borderline mutually exclusive.

He will need to learn a bit about managing in the NL.

He will need to learn a bit about changing lineups in regards to the weather (wind) at Wrigley.

Joe wants to live in the city ... where will "Cousin Eddie" be parked? Will he ride a bike to work?
(this is why nobody listens to this show)
The urban life of Chicago sounds just great ... no country club gated community living ... he'll be inviting The Lodge over for brunch soon.

Last thing - signing the big free agent that might feel 'enabled' (I think he meant 'entitled') is something unheard of with the Rays - if/when it happens here, how does Joe address that?
Go straight 'Jack Ryan' conversation with they guy ... nothing hidden ... honesty is the best policy.

Pretty much a shorter version of the announcement press conference from the Cubbie Bear. I just remember the calls a few years ago bitching about needing a set lineups for the players to feel some consistency- I doubt Joe has less than 80 different lineups his first year. When the novelty wears off, he'll get just as much grief as Dusty or Lou did near their ends.

As far as the wrestling, like the forum here, just keep it to yourselves

Wasn't this the question that Bernstein suggested during transition yesterday? Kind of funny that Speigs would open with it after mocking Bernsies attempt to intrude on their interview.
