Feder says Pat will announce Monday that he is leaving the mid day show.Feder says this could lead to the return of Danny Mac or the signing of Kap & Haugh. Discuss.I liked Pat.

Well this changes the calculus.

My guy tells me situation has become...how did he put this...fluid.

From Feder...

Former Chicago Bear Patrick Mannelly is stepping down after five months as Matt Speigel’s midday co-host at CBS Radio sports/talk WSCR AM 670, sources said Friday.

Mannelly is expected to announce Monday that he plans to drop his full-time duties at the Score but will continue as a Bears pre-game host and contributor during football season.

Mitch Rosen, operations director of the Score, declined to comment on changes to the midday lineup. But insiders said the move raises several intriguing possibilities for the station in revamping the show, which airs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.

One option could be the return of Spiegel’s longtime former partner, Dan McNeil, who chose not to renew his contract last year and has been off the air since then. Mannelly, who retired last June after 16 seasons with the Bears, was named McNeil’s successor.
Also considered a strong possibility is the hiring of David Kaplan and David Haugh for middays at the Score. Sources said Tribune Media would be willing to release Kaplan from the remaining 11 months of his contract with news/talk WGN AM 720, where he has been a fixture for 20 years. Haugh, veteran sports columnist for the Chicago Tribune, is a free agent in radio.

The Score’s overture to Kaplan and Haugh comes five weeks after Tribune Media pulled the plug on its short-lived FM sports/talk venture on WGWG LP 87.7, known as The Game 87.7 FM. The only program that survived intact was “The Kap & Haugh Show,” which has been streaming on WGNplus.com and simulcast on Comcast SportsNet Chicago.

Midday ratings on the Score declined after McNeil left the station last summer. In the latest Nielsen Audio survey, the Score ranked 15th in middays with a 2.7 percent share and cumulative weekly audience of 333,900.

I'd take Kap and Haugh if it meant losing Grimace.

Looks like Pat realized this wasn't for him. The show hadn't gotten any better, so I have to say, I'm glad to see this. Hopefully Porky gets fired also. This whole time slot needs a change. Kap and Haugh, no thanks. Both are brutal, and Kap is just a asswipe.

FWIW - Mannelly hasn't tweeted anything in over 10 hours.

I wonder if Wannstedt has been on deck waiting for a swing at this?

Wannstedt would have just as a little to add after football is done this week than Mannelly. Im thinking Mannelly looked at it that way too and figured sitting across from the Purple Mess for an entire spring /summer with not much to add to the proceedings wasn't very enticing. Sit back, enjoy your dividend checks and spend the sumer on the golf course sounds a lot better option to me. .

I do feel like Kap and Haugh could help produce some fun bad transitions for the two or so weeks they'd still do them.

I'll wait for the sure-to-come superfluous Beardown thread I guess, but Bernstein was over the moon with this hire. You can't teach smart, he said.

Let me just say they have a bad team in the midday. No leadership, no creativity, etc. All good dude...well mostly, but nothing came out of it. They are paid to come up with ideas and implement them. Furious 5 was the big plan for the NFL season?

Its part of the reason Mac had to leave.

Not that I love Spiegs singing parody songs, but it was a reason he was hired. Remember that whole mix of music thing???? Ya got nothing out of him. Lotsa talking about it.

The big thing they did was treat themselves to a Hawks game and a ND football game. Nice work! lol

Yeah, hard to paint this as a victory for #TeamVERYSMARTRADIO...the way he gushed about Mannelly you would have though Bernstein hand picked him.

Bernstein didnt like Mannelly being there. Mannelly is the only guy that could say "No, that didnt happen, I was there" no matter how much Bernstein spun it.

lets face it Mannelly hated being around those shitheads daily. he is fine with coming back for football season. Works fine.

This morning, they were playing audio clips of Bulls' players speaking after games. The gag was to guess who the opponent was. This would never happen under Mac's watch.

Kap and Haugh is possible?

Bernstein has been wang whipping Haugh for years. Mitch is really gonna hire somebody that Dan thinks is a complete idiot? I don't think so.

If he did, those trannies would be entertaining.

I will miss Mannelly. I thought he related to the regular guy/fan pretty well. Sure, he was working hard at the radio things and was a bit green here and there but he really seemed to want this.

Speigs just isn't a show driver... the past few months were evident of that.
