You're tuning in expecting something different?

Dan Patrick is doing a fine show today.

I worked from home yesterday with my little one. I had DP on in the background. Sounds like they had quite the bar mitzvah over the weekend!

There's some good national stories today with CC and the MNF game. I prefer local happenings, but DP is a decent change of pace. I'll get my Cubs fill tomorrow. Honestly, when I heard Kasper on M&H, I clicked away. I just don't care for his homer opinions.

I actually tweeted the show and demanded they shut off the laughing gas in the studio.

I swear to god, if you didn't speak English, and you heard this show, you'd think it was the funniest two humans having the most hilarious conversation of all time. Unfortunately, listeners tend to speak English, and are aware that nothing they're saying rises above the level of mildly amusing -the sort of thing that might elicit a bit of a chuckle.

Just now, Goff bust a fucking gut because Rodney Harrison didn't see the controversial call from last night's game. So funny! Man, he missed that part of the game! Has anything ever been as hilarious as that?!

Goff doesn't understand why sports fans dislike certain teams, including rivals.

This is a sports talk show host.

LeBron Damn James!!

Well at least he's up front, in that he's ignorant about the fucking concept and not trolling.

He certainly didn't understand the hate spewed at Avi Garcia yesterday.

I guess.

It sounds like he wasn't raised in a house that watched sports. I guess that's not his fault, but it still seems weird for a sports host.

Youth is where one typically develops hatred for certain sports teams, and it doesn't have to be rational... it's just part of sports culture. After all, it doesn't matter in the whole scheme of things. It's part of what makes sports fun. This is an example of what's wrong with the "really smart fan" culture.

That's him channeling Bernstein right there. Appreciate greatness, don't ignore it on the basis of meatball provincialism.

Yup. And he will come back and argue it has nothing to do with Bernstein. He may even really believe that. Bernstein permeates even the subconscious of his minions.

They have gone so far away from how actual sports fans think, they don't even realize it anymore. His views would be immediately mocked on any other station.

I agree with that, though honestly there's a part of me that is attracted to some of what Bernstein peddles. Spare me the righteous indignation stuff, but whatever middle ground he presents from time to time between the extremes of "appreciate greatness" and "MJH-style DA BEARS" is all right by me.

Post subject:  Re: 10/6 - meh

Oh I agree. In particular, I do agree with him - to an extent - on his "all that matters is championships" thoughts. I would temper it to say all that matters is competing for championships. I want my team to have a shot and give me something to root for every year. But they're not going to win the championship every year. I just can't root for a team or get particularly excited for a matchup with a rival if my team isn't in contention. The Bears of the last few years are a good example.

That said, if there are people who do enjoy that, I'm not going to say they're idiots. Everyone enjoys sports differently. Cheering for my team and hating their rivals with my family and friends were some of the most enjoyable moments of my youth.

Bernstein's favorite James Bond movie is the one where there is no villain.

He just likes to appreciate Bond's greatness and driving ability.

I think it a sign of social retardation. I'm not saying a person needs to go out to a sports bar to enjoy sports, conversely those that choose to stay home or amogst a small group of friends don't enjoy any kind of elite status either. One can choose one, both, or their own way of enjoying their team. But spare some sense of superiority in the method you choose as compared to others. It isn't indicative of being a more enlightened sports fan as much as a combination of assholism and insecurity.

Like objectifying women at home but coming to the defense of women who are objectified by those encountered in public.

I'm reading a lot of irrational hatred for Goldfinger on Twitter from the typical mouth-breathers. It's sad, really. This is a once-in-a-lifetime character. I mean look. At. His. GOLD.

Hah, point well made. Bernsie really doesn't know how to enjoy sports. As soon as you say only championships matter, then one has to wonder why even watch the games.

And the Austin Powers counterpart, Goldmember was truly a sight to behold. "I'm from Holland isn't that weird?"

Yes... when a guest "face dials".

These two sound like a tween sleep over thumbing through the new Tiger Beat magazine when that happens.

I agree, but I do feel that unless a team is able to compete for a championship in a given year, I can't get that into it. That's just personal preference, though.

Of course, he has to take it to an extreme. If all that really mattered was winning championships, there haven't been many Chicago teams to care about over the past couple decades (except for hockey, of course :) ).

Poor Goff. A show thread about his ignorance has turned into a thread making fun of Bernstein. Bernstein wins again? I guess he does if his competition is Goff.
