We're a little less than two months away and a lot can happen between now and then, but I will say that Greenshoe is absolutely the fastest trotter I have ever seen. Even if you have zero interest in racing this guy is worth paying attention to. He's a Secretariat/Niatross type horse.

That Britannica piece gives a little glimpse into the life of Hambletonian, the horse. Pretty amazing.

This is possibly the greatest horse that ever lived:

1:9, that's prohibitive

Yeah, I'm not suggesting betting on him.

Sometimes a horse is more impressive in a loss than he is in any of his wins. Greenshoe got stuck behind bad cover, was forced to flip three deep on the last turn, and trotted his last eighth mile in probably close to 12 seconds which is absolutely unheard of.

I'll say one thing though. When we talk about horses and we use a term like "best", it's pretty subjective. I have no doubt Greenshoe is the fastest trotter that has ever walked the earth. But last night showed a small vulnerability. His connections are still very wary and careful with the horse leaving the gate as he has had some mental issues at the start of races, particularly last year. If he can overcome those issues to the point where they can bring him off the gate at top speed, I will not hesitate to call him the best that I've ever seen.

If Greenshoe minds his manners we're likely to see a horse trot faster than any ever has before.

53 second back half under a hammerlock in the first heat. He was wild leaving the gate though. I won't be shocked if he jumps it off in the second heat, especially if he draws the rail.
