I'm not sure it's back on the board, but in the wake of allegiations continuing to hubber over Auburn QB Cam Newton, Las Vegas oddsmakers took the Auburn/Georgia game off the board. Auburn was an 8 point pick before Vegas oddsmakers removed it yesterday.

As for prices tonight, Dave Wannstedt's Pittsburgh Panthers are 5 1/2 point favorites over UConn on ESPNHD, while UAB is a 2 point pick over East Carolina, for what they're worth...

where are you finding 5.5 on Pitt? I just looked at 20 offshore books and another 20 in Vegas. Everybody has 6. But hey, make believe betting with made up lines is is almost as good as make believe radio. :D And if you're getting your lines from any media source, stop yourself. The lines printed in newspapers or given on tv shows usually aren't accurate.

Georgia-Auburn is on the board at 8. It was taken off briefly yesterday when some boob reported that Newton was going to be suspended by the NCAA. In typical media fashion, all the sports media people reported this without checking the facts with anybody. They just reported so and so "said". It's sad that media feels the need to report things that people make up without checking the facts first. This isn't journalism any more, it's rumor mongering. It's telling stuff other people make up and calling it "breaking news". The guy who made this story up probably got a kick out of his ability to get the media nationally to report something he just made up. When the media realized it was just some dumb guy predicting an imminent suspension without any facts whatsoever, the media pulled the story and said "oh nevermind". But in the meantime, the books all pulled the game off the board until the question was resolved. When they found it was just a case of the media reporting an unsubstantiated rumor somebody made up, they put the game back on the board.

Thanks for the update. Dan Patrick had a guy on his show this morning right out of the box to explain why Georgia/Auburn was removed. He puts the betting lines for a number of Vegas hotels. As for the Cam Newton story, I don't think we have all the facts concerning alleged academic violations. The national media has literally tripped & fallen all over themselves to report a story without all the facts involved. It's very sloppy journalism at this stage...

That's funny. Patrick needs to get a different guy then. There were a few Vegas hotels dishing 5.5 yesterday. Not one is dishing 5.5 today. Patrick's guy is a day late and a hook short. But hey, 5.5, 6...all the same to the dumb asses who work in the media who put people on the air spouting incorrect stuff and apparently aren't smart enough to know how to take 20 seconds and go to certain websites and get or check the facts themselves.

We certainly do not know everything about the Newton story. Which is why the media must be extra careful not to report stuff people make up or is not substantiated. It's a weekly parlor game in SEC country that fans of one school call talk shows and make shit up about another school and try to get the media to report what they made up. For the national media to report this "make up a story and call a talk show to get it on the aid" kind of stuff is ridiculous. When there is news to be reported, it will be announced by the NCAA, the SEC or the school. Not by some idiot Bama or Florida fan or supposed student calling a talk show.

The man's name is Mike Seba, and here's why he took the Auburn/Georgia game off the board for a time yesterday:

Yep. I know that's why they took the Auburn game down. But he didn't take anything off the board. He has no influence over any books. But that explains his being wrong on the Pitt line.

LVSC for years was the entity that made the lines for the Vegas casinos. LVSC was sold this year to Cantor -- a trading enterprise. Kenny White -- a lifelong Vegas guy and former owner of LVSC, is no longer involved. The people running LVSC are stock traders. All the sports guys are gone from there. The LVSC guys may have had the number at 5.5, but no hotels actually use their numbers any more. Most hotels have stopped their subscription to LVSC numbers entirely. This guy is a total unknown and his numbers are irrelevant. Patrick needs much better sources. Any sports book director in Vegas who actually make the numbers for their book would be a better choice than this guy.

For any of us that had Stanford, we should have got that one, Stanford up 4 running the clock out and on 3rd down the running back breaks away about to score and just goes down at the 6 instead of getting the touchdown, so Stanford knees 2 more plays and wins 17-13.
