Arrogate on the fence. California Chrome out in the 12 hole. I'm sure Pletcher has Keen Ice sitting on a big race. Can he shock the world again? A buck and an eighth might be too short. |

I would definitely meet up at Hawthorne or the Foundry or the Saddle Room, even Oakbrook would be okay but I heard they made some changes since Churchill took it over. |

I'm going to try to beat Arrogate out of second in the exacta. The only other horses I can see being capable are Neolithic, Shaman Ghost, and Keen Ice. |

I liked how Eragon ran in his last race. Hard to say how he will do against the toughest competition today from an outside post, but he you can count on him firing late. That will be my play today at 50-1 M/L. I think those odds will drop, but could go the other way because of Arrogate and California Chrome being the heavy favorites. Might take a look at Shaman Ghost, too. |

Half of this field is in the race only to keep Chrome running wide through the first turn. |

newper wrote: Half of this field is in the race only to keep Chrome running wide through the first turn. I think he can have the lead in two steps if Victor wants to put him there. I'm not sure that's the best idea, as it might result in a repeat of the Breeder's Cup Classic. But Chrome is a front end horse. I wouldn't call him intractable, but he isn't really happy unless he has the lead either. Arrogate has problems of his own from the rail. Smith probably has to drive him hard out of the gate. Also, I've always thought Arrogate was a fragile horse with some physical issues. That's why he didn't make the Triple Crown. We'll see how long Baffert can keep him together. |

Not a lot of speed to the inside of Chrome But there's no way they take force Chrome to the lead right away, so they are going to have to deal with it. Maybe they do since the race is a little shorter though. It is a gamble. |

He just didn't have it at all. Now it seems dumb to have kept him training for this race. You knew he was gassed when Espinoza whacked him to try to keep Arrogate stuck down low and the horse didn't respond. Fuck. I had the right idea and went with the wrong one on top. |

CC was trying to tell everyone he couldn't run, and no one picked up on the signs. They should have at least checked him out. It would have been disappointing to scratch the horse, but that would have been the right decision by Art Sherman, who should have known better. Where was Sherman when the horse was being saddled that he could have seen for himself that something wasn't right? Too busy giving interviews and not doing his job. |
