Hard not to go with the million dollar horse, Tapwrit, who showed a nice late kick to finish just behind McCracken in the Sam F. Davis. But I think this is kind of a race where the top horses are all evenly matched, where you should look for value, not the short price Tapwrit is going to offer. That said, this is a race that Pletcher has been very strong in. Both of his horses, with Sonic Mule being the other, would be good choices in any tri-fecta. Beyond that, I like No Dozing's pedigree, sired by Union Rags, who should embrace the distance in coming from a Belmont Stakes winner. With the view that he might be able to stretch it out this time, I kind of like my guy, Mark Casse's horse, State of Honor, who has the speed to be on or near the pace the entire trip. I read an article, in which Casse said State of Honor is a "very fast horse. I don't think he would be so complimentary, if it weren't true. The wild card is Wild Shot. Because of a bad trip, he supposedly ran six lengths farther than McCracken in the Sam Davis and still finished fourth. Don't know enough about Beasley. There's no video of him. Basha is interesting with the "hot" Uncle Mo and Indian Charlie pedigree. But he's lightly run and not in stakes class. |

I like Iliad in the San Felipe. The Big Cap is a tough race. I probably won't bet it. I may try to beat Tapwrit with Wild Shot in the Tampa Bay Derby. I like Brooklyn Bobby in the 10th at Gulfstream. The Florida Oaks is loaded with nice fillies. I'm going with Fifty Five. This seems like a good spot for her at a decent price. |

Tapwrit is the one to beat at Tampa Bay. I believe the story about Wild Shot having to work extra hard in the Sam F. Davis because of a bad trip. Like the tactical speed. Would have good value at 10-1 or better. No Dozing is worth a shot, too. I throw out his last trip out as a mulligan coming off a 2 1/2 month layoff. He should be in better form this time with the shorter lay-off. Had a recent fast workout at 5F. GL all! |

After crunching the numbers, I decided to take out No Dozing. Only one place finish in three graded races, and the last time out was a clunker on this Tampa Bay track. Not enough consistency with this horse. Therefore, I will go with both Pletcher horses, one and two, with Sonic Mule second in class only to Tapwrit. Then I'm throwing in the speedy Basha and my guy's horse, State of Honor, who's hit the board in the last three graded stakes races. |
