Tiger was +200 before the tourney and I didn't see any value in that number. Now after the first round, he is +270. I bought at this price on the WSEX live betting exchange. (Buy option at $27 to return $100). He made five bogeys (and four birdies today). 5 bogeys is extremely unusual for him. One day aberration, hopefully, and it gives us a better price. I expect him to be in the hunt, if not leading, on Sunday and I expect these shares to be worth considerably more Sunday afternoon.

I know the guy's life is a tragedy in progress and an incredible waste of talent, but I am hoping like hell that John Daly can keep it together until Sunday.

A Tiger/Daly final pairing on Sunday in a major would be epic and probably the only time a crowd would be decidedly against Tiger.

Case in point - he just tried to drive the 370 yard 10th hole (his first) over a forest of trees, cutting the dogleg. He can't keep that kind of recklessness up all weekend. But, it's damn fun to watch.

I'd like to see that too, Doc, but he isn't playing like a guy near the top of the leaderboard in a major. On his first hole today, #10, Daley went for the green off the tee, a 364 yard par 4 dogleg right with trouble everywhere, including trees and OB. This go for broke strategy is likely going to blow up in his face by Sunday, if not right away today. At this moment, Daley is 32-1 in live betting, so the oddsmakers don't think he's going to be there. But if it's Tiger vs. Daley on Sunday, I will be right there with you.

John Daly is pretty good too Coast ;-)

Anyway, the guy I am rooting for is the local guy Mike Small. Let that coach get a nice fat paycheck after he makes the cut (He's tied for 44th right now with two holes to play and should make it in.)

Verplank with a top notch 66 today to be the 1 shot leader.

Can he at least hold it together until 5pm or so?

The answer, I fear, is sadly, no.

Can I hate a cartoon character. If so, can I shoot the guy bitching about his broker not having time for him ("I know he's got bigger fish to fry, but does he have to make it so obvious") at Charles Schwab that they are playing every 5 minutes on the webcast?

I thought I was sick of the Vonage commercials during the NCAA webcast (the wohoo-wohoohoo wohoo-wohoohoo crap)...

Tiger on 5...We all hit cut shots out of fairway bunkers like that, don't we?

This is shaping up to be a great weekend of golf. Right now, 23 are within 5 shots of the lead (-4) and 46 within 7 shots. This is anyone's tournament.

Mike Small is at +3 after finishing at even par. I like rooting for the little guy even though he's the coach of the Illini. :-)

Go Illini.

Tiger must have heard Pappy doubting him on his Jagbag this morning and thought to himself,

"I'm losing the faith of the common, everyday millionaire. I'd better kick it in gear."

This is a Tiger round for the ages. It's days like this that make me glad I invest in golf. My Tiger shares have had greater % appreciation in one day than my 401k has had this century.

He's ridiculous.

Tiger shares are my 401k plan.

A quick look at the first page of the leaderboard says Tiger wins this tournament by 8 shots.

Has he ever not won when he had a two shot lead?

Maybe once when he had an early lead but it wouldn't surprise me if he hasn't.

I can't believe that putt didn't fall.
