Everybody pick a driver each week. Nobody picks the same guy, picking is first come first served. The thread will be posted weekly AFTER QUALIFYING. By rule, I get to pick Jeff Burton each week. Tally up the points of the driver yous pick each week and reset the field after the Richmond race. This will be a 5 week play-in to the Chase For The Cup. This means there will only be 43 spots available in this contest. SO SIGN UP EARLY AND OFTEN(you mults yous). Then, starting with the first Chase race at New Hampshire, the Top 12 posters shall be assigned to the driver corresponding in the NEXTEL CUP standings. They keep this driver for the duration of the Chase. The chosen 12 will also get to pick a driver out of the Chase to make things more interesting. And rack up the points for the championship. Standings After Week 4 Pts. 626 - SHARK 608 - spanky 480 - RFDC 477 - Darren-Tinley Park 412.5 - City Of Fools 401 - donspiracy 343 - Dr. Kenneth Noisewater Since there are less than 12 players, the Chase To The Cup format will have everyone pick a Chase driver to keep for the remainder of the season. Then everybody pick another driver each race. The standings before the New Hampshire race will be reset to reflect the Nextel Cup standings. Because of weather concerns due to Tropical Storm/Hurricane Hanna, NASCAR has moved the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 from 6p tomorrow to 12Noon Sunday. ESPN will carry the Sprint Cup race Sunday that ABC Sports (ESPN on ABC) was originally scheduled to broadcast tomorrow night in prime time, while ESPN2 will carry the Nationwide Series race at about 5:30p or so Sunday night. Got all that? As a result of qualifying being postponed, Kyle Busch will be on the pole according to the NASCAR rule book Sunday. Fans in Richmond will be booing Kyle & the #18 M & M's Toyota all day long following the incident in the first race this spring with Dale Earnhardt, Jr.'s #88 AMP Energy Chevy that helped Clint Bowyer's #07 Jack Daniels Chevy win for Richard Childress Racing. As for my pick to win Sunday, NASCAR fans, I'm taking another RCR driver, Kevin Harvick's #29 Shell Chevy, to be in Victory Lane, weather permitting... |

Well, Jimmie Johnson did it again! The defending Sprint Cup champion held off Tony Stewart & Denny Hamlin to win the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond. My pick to win, Kevin Harvick, finished 7th in a race that took place yesterday due to Tropical Storm Hanna postponing all NASCAR action Saturday. It's off to Loudon and I don't mean Bob Newhart's character "Dick Loudon" from his '80s sitcom "Newhart" for the first race of the "Chase for the Cup". I'm referring to Loudon, NH for the Sylvania 300, which takes place Sunday afternoon. ABC Sports (ESPN on ABC) takes over with every remaining Sprint Cup race the rest of the way starting Sunday @ 12:30p. Kyle Busch & his #18 M & M's Toyota, Carl Edwards and his #99 Office Depot/AFLAC Ford Fusion & Jimmie's #48 Lowe's Chevy are seeded 1, 2, and 3 respectively in NASCAR's version of the playoffs. |

CoF, I don't need to post my picks here on the site. I think many here said I was on my game and I don't need to prove anything to you or anyone else. I made some dudes some money here and my picks were never after the fact. I have to go now. I have a court date for punching some dude in a supermarket checkout. |

ABC Sports, or should I say ESPN on ABC, will be broadcasting every NASCAR Sprint Cup series race the rest of the way. Under the terms of NASCAR's TV deal, ABC has the final 10 races of the season, the ones that'll determine the Sprint Cup Champion. They were supposed to broadcast the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 in Richmond, but got rained out Saturday night. ESPN picked up the race yesterday, in part because ABC had previously committed to WNBA Basketball & the final IRL race of the season at ChicagoLand Speedway. |

It seems confusing, only because ESPN produces ALL THE SPORTS that ABC airs. They've been doing that for quite sometime, in part because the Walt Disney Company owns ESPN & ABC. The reason why you still see ESPN logos & graphics in ABC Sports' events is that they did a recent survey and the ESPN name is the most recognizable in sports television. |

I think that is where you are confused though, SHARK. In fact, ABC Sports was integrated into ESPN in 2006. However, despite what you might think, the sports broadcasts on ABC are not, in fact, a simulcast of the ESPN network itself. |

I never said that the ESPN/ABC broadcasts are simulcast. ESPN covers the tabs in producing the games, graphics, and crews for the sports we all see on ABC these days... |

The players are assigned a Chase driver for the duration of the chase. Players will pick a second driver of their choosing, just like the first five weeks. As for the fate of the rest of the Chase drivers... You may change your chase driver ONCE from who you were assigned to one of the following: TONY STEWART, GREG BIFFLE, JEFF GORDON, KEVIN HARVICK, MATT KENSETH. http://www.nascar.com/2008/news/headlin ... index.html If you change chase driver, you will start with no points and CANNOT change back or get all wishy-washy. For the second driver picked each week, you cannot pick one of the leftover chase drivers. The five chase drivers not picked are effectively dead to us. Until they wreck out your guy and then you'll wish they were someplace else. Confused? Good. Reward? Yes. A certain flightless bird from a certain AllenBrothers type service. Absteaks.com Where's my party liquor? These are the players for the Chase For The Meleagris. spanky-80 pts. KYLE BUSCH Started posting Jan. 2008 with a lot to say about Mike North. Recently spotted at the last MJH remote. May or may not be Frank Costanza If there's a favorite to win the Chase, it has to be spanky, who starts with a 30-point advantage in bonus points. SHARK-50 pts. CARL EDWARDS Only been here since May, but has more posts than me . Sox fan and possible silicon based life form. SHARK is the only player who has consistently matched spankys' picks this year. SHARK won six races but begins the Chase with 50 bonus points; he was penalized 10 bonus points because of a penalty assessed after his victory at Las Vegas. If SHARK and spanky remain trouble-free during the Chase, they will battle for the title. Darren-Tinley Park-40 pts. JIMMIE JOHNSON Participated in last year PickWinners CFB, NFL contest. Loves the Cubs, but hates Rosati's. Closet Pappy Gravedancer and a HUGE Elmhurst Steve fan. A small improvement in Darren's intermediate track driver picking could go a long way toward a championship. RFDC-10 pts. DALE EARNHARDT JR. Another person who joined this past May, but I'm only 100 posts ahead of him. Possibly might have been username Kramer before that whole komedy klub kalamity. A mang who enjoys the finer things in life, like the Cub and stock car racing. RFDC has been fighting a holding pattern since the early-season euphoria of the move from trans fatty acids. The odds against a first championship are long. donspiracy-10 pts. CLINT BOWYER Been here 2 1/2 years after over a year of lurking before posting. Accused of possibly being mr. pickles... A fav of KS, I'd still be his private dancer. Albeit a 250 lb. one. The trend line has been down for the third-place finisher in 2006 PickWinners, ever since donspiracy's early-season streak of seven consecutive 10 post weeks ended with a victory at the 2007 Manniversary CSFMB Golf Contest May of that year. City of Fools-10 pts. DENNY HAMLIN Yet another person who joined this summer and has more posts than me. Cubs fan, "wanna talk about the Bulllll" a regular Mr. Basketball now that FarveFan is defending the border from Canadians/polar bears. Russian is sloppy, most likely a Company Man or triple agent. Don't dismiss City Of Fool's chances; he finished third in the total posts as a rookie in 2008. (I know the year's not over, but I'm on a roll here) If he can avoid the gremlins that have haunted him this year, City Of Fools will be a factor. Dr. Kenneth Noisewater-10 pts. JEFF BURTON Wow! Where to starp with this full on whack job? Rookie Of Year 2006 even though he was here for the only the last 10 weeks of the year. That's like C.C Diabeties winning the Cy Young in the National League! Allegedly NOT Butch Harmon, although I have my doubts. Die hard Illini fan, but fair weather Cub fan, who knew?? Though Dr. Kenneth Noisewater's posts have shown improved lucidity lately, he hasn't had the finishes to match the potential of his mults. Consistency is the key for the Dr. Kenneth Noisewater team. |

OK, let me see if I understand. Dale Jr is my driver for the Chase. He will be mine every week. I will select a 2nd driver each week, but this driver cannot be one of the other drivers assigned to people and I cannot select TONY STEWART, GREG BIFFLE, JEFF GORDON, KEVIN HARVICK, MATT KENSETH. So for example, I could pick Kasey Kahne and be ok, and my 2 drivers for that week would be Dale Jr, and Kasey Kahne. Am I understanding correctly? |

Post subject: | Re: NASCAR Pick'em Week 5 Richmond 0.75 Mile Speedway |
You're absolutley correct. Everybody gets one Chase driver for the duration of the season. The leftover chase drivers CANNOT be picked for the weekly second pick. I was expecting at least 12 people to play along. That didn't happen, so the rules had to be altered. Wouldn't expect spanky, SHARK, or Darren to change their chase drivers. But the rest of us can forego 10 pts. |

I think Carl Edwards and the #99 Office Depot/AFLAC Ford Fusion will continue to do extremely well when the "Chase for the Cup" begins Sunday at Loudon, NH. Besides, given the fact it's New Hampshire, it's a home track for Jack Roush & Roush/Fenway Racing. I won't be shocked if Carl or any of the other Roush drivers sport Boston Red Sox colors come Sunday... |
