Everybody pick a driver each week. Nobody picks the same guy, picking is first come first served. The thread will be posted weekly AFTER QUALIFYING. Then, starting with the first Chase race at New Hampshire, the posters shall be assigned to the driver corresponding in the NEXTEL CUP standings. They keep this driver for the duration of the Chase. The players will also get to pick a driver out of the Chase to make things more interesting. And rack up the points for the championship. For the second driver picked each week, you cannot pick one of the leftover chase drivers. The chase drivers not picked are effectively dead to us. Until they wreck out your guy and then you'll wish they were someplace else. Standings Pts. His name appears in the Sun-Times "Weekly Media Challenge" for both US 99.5's "Ramblin'" Ray & 101.9 "The MIX's" Kathy Hart, but I don't see Mark Martin's name on the list. That said, the #8 Aric Almirola U.S. Army Chevy for DEI is SHARK's pick Sunday...Speaking of Martin, it's my understanding he'll be joining Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Jimmie Johnson & Jeff Gordon with Hendrick Motorsports for 2009, and I believe he'll be driving what Casey Mears currently drives. That's the #5 CarQuest/Kellogg's Chevy. |

So Jimmie Johnson & his #48 Lowe's Chevy took the checkered flag at Martinsville, VA yesterday. Why do I have this feeling he's going to three-peat as Sprint Cup Champion and that the "Chase for the Cup" might be decided before the last race of the season at Homestead, FL? Anyway, the Sprint Cup heads back to suburban Atlanta Sunday for the PepBoys 500 in Hampton, GA. Fans, the "Chase" appears more & more to be Johnson's for the taking. Talk about a letdown with 3 races left, Atlanta, Phoenix & Homestead remaining! |

you count out Jeff Burton at your own peril. Ward will slip some sugar in golden boy's tank next weekend... |

City of Fools wrote: you count out Jeff Burton at your own peril. Ward will slip some sugar in golden boy's tank next weekend... City, right now, Jeff Burton's #31 AT&T Chevy for Richard Childress, plus 2 Roush/Fenway drivers, Greg Biffle's #16 3M Ford & Carl Edwards' #99 Office Depot Ford are still in contention for the Sprint Cup title. I just think if Jimmie and his #48 Lowe's Chevy continues to win, what point is there in watching the last 4 races of the season? |

Guess what, NASCAR fans? Jimmie Johnson is on the pole yet again for the PepBoys Auto 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway! Qualifying for the 7th race in the "Chase for the Cup" has been rained out...AGAIN! You know what that means...Jimmie's #48 Lowe's Chevy & the #16 DISH Network Turbo HD of Greg Biffle will be on the front row Sunday, weather permitting, at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, GA. It's the third race in a row where qualifying has been rained out, and the lineup set up by owner points, under NASCAR rules. |
