Everybody pick a driver each week. Nobody picks the same guy, picking is first come first served. The thread will be posted weekly AFTER QUALIFYING. Then, starting with the first Chase race at New Hampshire, the posters shall be assigned to the driver corresponding in the NEXTEL CUP standings. They keep this driver for the duration of the Chase. The players will also get to pick a driver out of the Chase to make things more interesting. And rack up the points for the championship.

For the second driver picked each week, you cannot pick one of the leftover chase drivers. The chase drivers not picked are effectively dead to us. Until they wreck out your guy and then you'll wish they were someplace else.

Regardless of who wins the last race of the Sprint Cup season Sunday in Homestead, FL, Jimmie Johnson is all but a lock to three-peat as Champion, as long as the #48 Lowe's Chevy doesn't finish 40th or worse. As much as I would like to see the #99 Office Depot Ford of Carl Edwards win Sunday and claim the Sprint Cup championship instead of Jimmie, I'll take a chance in the finale with a guy I think who will be in the "Chase for the Cup" next year. I'll take the "Great American Lager" and the #9 Budweiser Dodge of Kasey Kahne.

I knew I should have taken Kahne  . And I knew Johnson's situation of having the Cup pretty much wrapped up would bite me in the ass as well  .

You cannot control SHARK, you can only hope to contain him.

While Carl Edwards and the #99 Office Depot Ford won the Ford 400 as well as Saturday's Nationwide finale, the Ford 300, Carl came up a little short where it mattered. He lost a very close points race in the Nationwide Series, the former Busch Series, to Clint Bowyer by just 21 points. Clint's #05 Nationwide BB&T Chevy won the points title there. He lost the Sprint Cup title by only 69 points to Jimmie Johnson, even though Jimmie's #48 Lowe's Chevy finished 15th. I was watching a little bit of Speed's "Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain" last night, and one of the guests, former champion and current FOX Sports' NASCAR analyst Darrell Waltrip, wants a couple of things changed for next year. He wants the schedule moved up a little bit & to end sooner, especially because NASCAR gets dwarfed in the TV ratings by the NFL. D.W. also would like the "Chase for the Cup" format altered, especially with the lack of drama & suspense with Jimmie winning the title for three straight years.
