This weekly wagering contest will reward the best football prognosticator with a $100 gift certificate from a meat/steak company. New guys can still join in any time and you don't have to make a pick every week. Post them all at once or in separate posts, but they must be posted in the current week's contest thread. Post your plays any time, but they must be posted before a game you are playing kicks off. You must make your picks in this thread and you must provide at least one reason for each pick. Minimum 50 picks to qualify by the end of the contest.

Don - question.

When you say a reason for your pick, are you asking for valid trend reasons? i.e. - Ohio State has covered the last 10 double digit home spreads? Or just a comment as to why we feel that the team will win?

Boise St -3

Alabama -6.5 Tech without its leading rusher playing in the backyard of a good SEC team
LSU -18 its Washington need I say more.
Florida St. -6 I think Randy Shannon's days are numbered at Miami and this will not help him out.
Rutgers -4.5 I think they are the best team in a bad conference.

Ohio State - 22 OSU usually covers big numbers in their home openers under Tressell.

W. Michigan + 13 Michigan team is in shambles after latest Rich Rod fiasco. May lose this game outright.

LSU - 18 I expect this team to be in the national title hunt by year's end.

Just put some thought into each pick. Even if it a Jurko-like sentence fragments.

The rule is from the first year when Coast2coast ran the contest. He didn't want players just throwing up picks and basically spamming.

Luckily, all three champions put reasoning with their picks. If a player has the best winning % with 50 picks or more, and doesn't give reasons, I reserve the right to not recognize them as the winner.

The winner would be the one who followed all the rules of the contest and then be crowned champion. I may not count the games with no 'splanations next to them. Try me.

Pinnacle Sports

Illinois -6.5 vs Missouri- Illinois finally wins one in this series, and if the Illini defense handles the Missouri offense, does it convincgly.

Stanford -16.5 vs Washington State- I will say the Cougars are still bad and I think it's a bowl year for Harbaugh and the crew, get's it started here.

Maryland +21 vs Califorina- I think Maryland is decent not to get blown out, but if they do, I will start to beleive in California making a Pac-10 run.

My upset of the Day Central Michigan +13.5 vs Arizona- I like Central Michigan to win straight up with the players returning and Arizona breaking in a new quarterback and may be without the starting tight end.

All lines from The Greek

Under 62 1/2 Nevada/Notre Dame First week of the season, not enough offense yet for either team

Under 65 BYU/Oklahoma BYU has all kinds of trouble with Sooners D, and maybe a punt hits the Cowboys scoreboard in this one

Texas -42 1/2 vs UL Monroe Texas wins huge in its opener

Week 1 King For A Day, Fool For A Lifetime

Nevada +14 1/2 @ Norte Dame

Wolfpack run game makes up for their lacking D. ND will make it a no contest.

Georgia +5 @ Oklahoma St.

I'll take the SEC D over the Big 12 O. Bulldogs have 5th year Sr. at QB and sophmores at #1 RB and WR to replace Stafford and Moreno.

BYU @ Oklahoma -23

Game is at new Texas Stadium. BYU has lost 12 straight games to ranked non-conference opponents. This one gonna be ugly. OU gets revenge for the '94 Copper bowl.

Va. Tech @ Alabama -6 1/2

Tide D too much for Frank Beamer's big brain. Game played at the Georgia Dome.

LSU -17 1/2 @ Washington

The Tigers may score on every offensive play. How is the total only 52 1/2? I'm not playing ANY totals this year.

Underdogs on Monday

Cincinnati +4.5 vsd Rutgers-The Bearcats are still the champs, and Rutgers is breaking in some new players on offense.

Miami +6.5 vs Florida State- Mostly fan pick, hope the Canes win and it's always good to be the Noles.

Some really nice calls in this thread - i got my nut handed to me in all 3 games!

Congrats to the people on the ND win - nice pick against Nevada.

The Big 10 took the pipe all day Saturday. This conference is just bad

Don - will you be posting a new thread each week or just bumping this thread?

I am jumping on the early line of USC -7 at OSU. After last week's showing at home against Navy, I expect this line to jump to at least -9. I'm surprised it's not a double digit - I am sure it would be if it was a home game for USC.

If it is like last year, there will be a separate thread for each week.
