This weekly wagering contest will reward the best football prognosticator with a $100 gift certificate from a meat/steak company. New guys can still join in any time and you don't have to make a pick every week. Post them all at once or in separate posts, but they must be posted in the current week's contest thread. Post your plays any time, but they must be posted before a game you are playing kicks off. You must make your picks in this thread and you must provide at least one reason for each pick. Minimum 50 picks to qualify by the end of the contest.

Week 4 THE Top 25 Rundown

Thurs.
(4) Mississippi -3 1/2 at South Carolina
Rebel QB Jevan Snead is the real deal and SC's Stephen Garcia will make a mistake that will be the difference.

Early Risers
Fresno State +17 at (14) Cincinnati
Bulldogs will hang around and not let the Cats get too far away.

South Florida at (18) Florida State -14
S. Florida lost their QB Grothe and is out for the season and his backup B.J. Daniels, went to high school in Tallahassee and grew up cheering for Florida State. Not a chance.

(22) North Carolina +2 1/2 at Georgia Tech
Tar Heels, will be looking to snap a five-game losing streak at Bobby Dodd Stadium when it faces Georgia Tech in its ACC opener. The Yellow Jackets won nine of the past 11 meetings with the Tar Heels.

Southern Miss at (20) Kansas -14
Golden Eagles sophomore quarterback Austin Davis has not thrown an interception in his last 128 passes. The Golden Eagles are tied with Mississippi for the nation’s second-longest win streak behind Florida.

Indiana at (23) Michigan -20 1/2
Wolverines have pushed their home win streak in the series to 15 with lopsided victories in the last three matchups at the Big House, winning those by an average of 33 points.

(7) LSU at Mississippi State +12 1/2, (43 1/2)
Tigers QB Jordan Jefferson hasn't earned his cup of coffee, and won't find it today against MSU. LSU D keeps the score low. Playing my first total of the year. Take the under. 17-6

2:30's
(15) TCU +3 at Clemson
Tigers caoch Swinney has lost to the three ranked opponents he’s faced in his 10-game coaching career. TCU has RB stable of Joseph Turner, Matthew Tucker and Jercell Fort. They will run wild in Death Valley.

UTEP at (2) Texas -36
Texas is 25-1 against teams outside the Big 12 since the start of the 2004 season, the lone defeat coming against then-No. 1 Ohio State on Sept. 9, 2006. Since a 38-28 loss to Arkansas on Sept. 13, 2003, the Longhorns have won 21 in a row against unranked non-conference foes by an average of 36.6 points.

Arkansas +17 1/2 at (3) Alabama
Razorbacks have enough firepower to hang around. Saban hopes to have star receiver Julio Jones (bruised right knee) and tailback Roy Upchurch (high ankle sprain) back for this game after they sat out last weekend.

(6) California -5 1/2 at Oregon
Cal's RB Jahvid Best runs circles again Ducks freshman RB LaMichael James. Cal D dosen't help the situation. They take it by at least 7.

(9) Miami (FL) -3 at (11) Virginia Tech
Where is Beano Cook? Jacory Harris will win at least 2 Heismans. As much as it pains me to say this, the U is back!

Illinois at (13) Ohio State -14
???How is this number double at least??? Illinois, which has lost 14 of its last 15 Big Ten openers, has dropped four in a row against ranked opponents since beating Ohio State in 2007.

Evening Games
(1) Florida at Kentucky +21 1/2
Flu and rainy skies are just enough help to Kentucky to keep it within 3 TD's. Coach 'em up Rick Brooks!

Colorado State at (19) Brigham Young -17
The Rams get slapped around by the best team they've faced this year. Have fun at the Sun Bowl fellas.

(8) Boise State -16 1/2 at Bowling Green
Broncos trade TD's for FG's and run up the score.

Arizona State at (21) Georgia -11 1/2
Since the start of the 2000 season, Arizona State is 3-27 against Top 25 opponents, with the losses coming by an average of 16.9 points. The Sun Devils are 0-4 all-time against the SEC.

Louisiana-Lafayette +27 1/2 at (25) Nebraska
Nebraska will face their third Sun Belt Conference opponent of the season, and will try to improve to 9-0 against teams from that league.

Iowa at (5) Penn State -9 1/2
Too many Hawkeyes hurt to keep this one close.

(24) Washington +7 1/2 at Stanford
Sarkisian’s first hallmark victory put Washington in the Top 25 for the first time since Sept. 28, 2003.

Texas Tech at (17) Houston -1, (73)
After their first win over a top-five opponent since 1984, the Cougars will play as a ranked team for the first time in 18 years. Texas Tech has won five straight meetings. Gimme 10 TD's, mix in some FG's, I'll take the over. 42-32.

Washington State + 45 1/2 at (12) USC (54)
That's too many points. USC has won its last six meetings with Washington State by an average of 34.5 points. The Trojans routed the Cougars 69-0 last season. The game may be a mess, but WSU get a half-dozen on the board. The total is too close to the spread. I'll take the over. 51-6.

Jets - 1 against Tenn at NY - Tenn is a bad team this year.
Houston -3.5 against Jax at Houston - Houston is a good team this year.
Detroit + 6 against Wash @ Detroit - Upset, hotplate special - Wash may be worse than Det.
San Fran + 7 @ Minnesota - I like SF fire and passion
Chicago - 1 @ Seattle - Seattle injured and bad
New Orleans - 6 @ Buffalo - N.O. looks very tough so far - Buffalo not so much.

NFL

Bears -1 @ Seahawks Too many injuries for the 'Hawks

Bengals +3 1/2 vs Steelers Who Dey wins this game outright at home

Broncos/Raiders Over 36 1/2 More offense than anticipated out in the Bay

Idaho +17 over NIU

Dog has covered all 5 lined games these 2 have played this year. NIU beat Purdue last week but I dont think Purdue is that good. Idaho hangs in this one.

Pitt +1 over NC State

NC St has played a couple crap teams the last 2 weeks. Pitt goes to 4-0.

Air Force -17 over SD State

Air Force loss to Minny keeps them focused. They get this one by at least 28.

Cent Mich -16.5 over Akron

Indiana put up 38 last week on Akron and I think C Mich has a better O.

Notre Dame -6.5 over Purdue

Purdue not that good. ND much more talent. Double digit win for ND.

Minny Pk over NW

Road team has covered 11 of last 12 in this series.

For Saturday

Rutgers -1 vs Maryland- Maryland is struggling to beat teams in Div. 2, and I think Rutgers has turned it around since the Labor Day shlacking.

Arkansas +17.5 vs Alabama- I liked what I saw from Arkansas last week, Alabama may score 31, so I see Mallet putting up at least 14.

LSU -12 vs Miss. St- I don't what Miss. St has, but if LSU wants to show they can contend in the SEC, a nice win would help here.

Texans -3.5 vs Jaguars- The Texans coming off a big win, at home and the Jaguars may be looking to the number 1 draft pick already.

Chargers -5.5 vs Dolphins- I like the Chargers to rebound from their loss more than the Dolphins.

Colts and Cardinals over 48- Both teams found their offenses last week and keep it going in a nice high scoring affair.

Green Bay -6.5 over St Louis

If this game was played last week GB probably would have been 9 or 10. Green Bay O should reach the high 20's low 30's and I cant see the Rams in the 20's.

Houston -4 over Jax

Houston has beaten the Jags by 13, 14 and 20 the last three games in Houston. This Houston team is better and this Jax team is worse. Houston continues dominating Jax at home.

Over 46 Atl/Ne

NE had to go against a fired up team last week. Back home they should light it up while the Atlanta O should also put up decent numbers against an average D.
