Duquesne Bowing Green under 66.5 1st half, under 140 game

So much for believing a coach when he says he is going to zone Duquesne and try to slow the game down....

Thursday
583 Troy @ Denver over 131.5
Probably about as low as you will ever find a Troy total and the reason is because Denver plays slow and pretty good defense. This is a pretty good Denver team (maybe best Denver team ever?) However, as slow as they usually play, they should score pretty easily against a horrid Troy defense that is 329th in the nation in defensive efficiency. Pioneers should find the shots early and often against this defense. Troy won't change. They'll run and gun even when they're down big.

843 Missouri Old Dom OVER 134
A guy with a pretty decent following on totals (Helmut) gave out under 138 and his followers drove this down. I don't think it stays here. This is as low as you will likely find a Mizzou total and the expectation in playing the under is that Old Dom will try to control tempo. I think this is a possible trap spot for Mizzou and the game will be close. But this Mizzou team is #2 in offensive efficiency in the nation and seems to find a way to put points on the board. I make this number 139, so when I see 5 points of value or more I take it.

626 Austin Peay @ Morehead St. Under 63, first half
Morehead plays slow, with last five games under 124 possessions. Conference game also begets a bit more careful and patient approach. Both games last year were under this number and Morehead isn't as proficient offensively as last year. Prefer first half and avoid a possible end game foul fest/random finish.

586 Troy-North Texas under 148.5
1586 Troy-North Texas under 69, 1st half
Took Troy over Thursday, under today. The pace should be fast as both these teams like to get up and down. So why under? Injuries. Special situation. Troy's best player, their PG and leading scorer, was injured late in that Denver game and is likely out today. The backup PG quit the team two weeks ago. WIth Troy thin at the point, I don't expect their offense to be in sync, especially early. North Texas lost its best player also on Thursday -- their only returning starter. Both teams will be trying to figure out where the points are coming from today.

Kansas North Dakota over 68, 1st half
ND plays fast and no defense. KU might get 100 today but prefer first half to a likely sloppy blowout 2nd half.

Ohio State -7 vs Indiana, 1st half

iU is NOT a top ten team and today will be the last time this year they are given such an undeserved ranking. They lost by doubles at Mich State, showing they are not road warriors worthy of a top ten ranking. (Beating #49 NC State or #134 Penn State on road doesn't prove squat). And OSU wants a little revenge. I won't be surprised by an early knockout.

Montana-Weber St under 137
First game they played, Weber got out and ran early --led 49-36 at half. 2nd half -- Montana controlled pace; 59 pts.

Montana coach..... What did you learn from your last game against Weber State?
“It was a tale of two halves. That first half, we weren’t the aggressor, we let them play at their pace. We can’t allow them to do that this time. We have to control the pace. We didn’t do that in the first half, we did in the second. That’ll be a key.”

YTD
12-10

iowa-Nebraska over 133.5
The two worst defenses in the conference. Iowa also is the fastest pace team, and while Nebraska plays slow overall, they have picked up the pace when playing the faster teams. I don't expect either team to lock down the other, similar to the first game they played...79-73 with 124 possessions.

1st half unders in early tourney rounds have been a strong angle in recent years, but unders are being pinched so much this year in most games, value now on 1h overs...even in non tourney games.

Illinois State +6
Can a team with lousy defense (Creighton) cover this in a champ game? iSU wins over UNI and Wich shows they are playing at a higher level now.

The tough one of best one over the Weekend, had to be Washington at UCLA. UCLA favored by 5.

Washington leads most of the way, but UCLA up 2 and Washington has the ball with about 15 seconds, after throwing it away, they foul UCLA with about 3.2 seconds, so UCLA makes both free throws, then Washington tries a long pass that goes out of bounds.

So Washington instead of letting the clock run out on the inbound pass, fouls again and UCLA makes both free throws and wins by 6.

That's about as bad as the Louisville/Kentucky game earlier this year. I had KU -9.5. They hit two foul shots to go up 69-56 with 10 seconds left. This seems like as appropriate a time to call off the dogs as there is, but not Pitino. Louisville comes down the court and hits an NBA three with five seconds left.

Down 69-59 with five seconds left, and Louisville is still pressing. A Louisville player tackles the KU player receiving the inbounds pass, making all of Louisville's linebackers jealous. In the process, the ball goes out of bounds, and for some reason (I can certainly think of one), the refs not only swallow the whistle, but call it out of bounds on KU. Louisville inbounds the ball, drains another three with two seconds left. 69-62 final.
