Kent State +.5 in the first quarter. Kent is very stingy on D in the first and NIU seems to be a slow starting team

No way, this is a foolish wager at best. NIU on turf in the dome in Detroit. Game will be either 14-10 or 17-14 after 1st quarter.

NIU has played three teams with above .500 records this year (troubling stat for them to be in the top 20). They scored 0 against Toledo, 7 against Ball State and 7 against Tennessee Martin in the first quarter.

Toledo has given up a grand total of 27 points in the first quarter all year (2.3 per game) with 14 of those coming in an anomolous first quarter against 1 win Akron. It has shut out 8 of its 12 opponents in the first quarter.

Those are the stats. Here is the analysis. This is a championship game in a huge domed stadium that will be relatively empty. I think both teams will come out with jitters, which is usually good for the defenses. I think the expanse of the stadium will take a little bit of sighting adjustments so that there won't be any special teams scores. NIU will come out and try to establish the run, but that is Toledo's strength.

The O/U is 13.5 so Las Vegas doesn't agree with your high scoring opinion don. I would love the under if I could get it at 14 or below. However, I like Toledo as a side in a 0-0 or 7-7 first quarter.

Toledo comes from the much more difficult division of the MAC and played 5 teams over .500.

It's hard not to take the points in a game like this.

Kent +7

Just for the record, I'm not actually playing this game tonight. Gun to my head, I take the touchdown.

My guy has it at 7.5. I think I would probably take the points as well with NIU winning.

Those are compelling facts, dolphin. Is it too late to change my pick?? I still like Huskies to roll wire to wire. 3-0 NIU after the first quarter still gets it done for me right?

Rabbi Chusie Lox says take the points.

Anyway, why sweat out the 7. I already did all the heavy lifting for you. Take Toledo in the first quarter and then you can cheer for spanky's heroes for the final three quarters

By the way, it's been pouring in California. It is going to be tough for Stanford to cover that big line.

Whatever plays you make tonight, parlay them with the Stanford money line.

I don't think Toledo will win.

that is true and the thing that is frightening about taking 1st quarter scores. If the analysis is not spot on with the action on the field, you have no hope.

I look at it this way, NIU is going to have to hold them to 3 points in order not to cover, in my opinion

Mullah dolphin agrees with you and your opinion on Stanford ML.

I will be walking a tightrope tonight with a 1Q play and a -350 ML play. The Mullah may need to find more oil if this does not work out.

More

7.5 game line and 58
4.5 1H and 28.5
.5 1Q and 13.5

the lines are set for a slow start with things really picking up in the second half

avoid all advice from a guy who is 100% certain on all plays involving Toledo tonight. Repeatedly.

The weather is beautiful in Stanford, CA. Light winds, and no precipitation are the forecast for tonight.

Stanford rolls.

NIU is lucky to be down only 7.

That was a terrible quarter in just about every way.
