Post subject:  Next Year's Contest Format

I had an idea about the football picking contest next year (if we have it). Anyone who wants in starts with a fictional amount of money (say $1,000). Each week, no only do you have to pick, you have to lay an amount on each game. The winner at the end of the year is not based on winning percentage but on fictional money won.

I would be up for that dolphin. I have never made more than a handshake bet on sports but you guys have piqued my curiosity in sportsbetting.

It would be like a stock paper trading contest.
If you wanted to make it interesdting, bigfan could set up a paypal account and the participants could throw in 50 bucks. You could pay top three places.

I agree Dolphin and I was thinking the same way. That way, we can get guys like Spinnin Bucket who play a lot of futures at great lines and the market players like BigFan to join in. There are a lot of ways to win at this game and we can all learn from some of the masters who do it a bit differently. I put up the prize this year and it looks like Nas is going to be enjoying some ALlen Brothers meat very soon. If I'm still on this planet next fall, I'll be happy to put up the prize again for a contest like you suggest.

The budget method isn't a bad idea. I always thought the best way to do it was by units (that way people could play dogs on the ML), though that is probably a big pain in the ass to keep track of. Plus, I noticed a few people throwing out teasers. 6, 6.5, and 7 pt teasers pay out differently (typically, a 6 point teaser on 2 teams has the same vig as a single straight bet). If you were to open it up a bit, I still think you'd need to have some rules in place. Otherwise, you'd have clowns playing all sorts of ridiculous 7-team parlays and 5 star bets at the end trying to play catch up, and that's not really fair to the guys that earned a spot at the top the hard way.

Thanks to everyone for making this a fun contest to be in. Great to read the different opinions we all had on games this year. What ever type of contest you guys decide on for next year is fine with me.

There will be many people weeded out well before the end of the season under my proposal. If we have a set dollar amount, once you reach zero, you are finished.

I will be all in on the Kickoff Classic and a preseason game I have had my eye on for a while.
