I don't get it, you're TOLD you are improperly equating "publishing" with "making public", yet you keep on with this public vs. private conversation BS.

Please explain it to an idiot then. How does one publish information while having a conversation out of the public eye?
What I'm hearing is that chus "published" this private information publically. Doxxing.
I'm wondering how given that he was talking with people privately.
I literally don't understand it. Tell me like I'm 3. Hell maybe I'm just too stupid to understand.

Chus is probably taking more heat than he should, but you can't say his ultimate intent was to keep this information private.

If he only told his wife and kids then that's a private conversation. He shared info about a member of this board with other board members using a feature provided by the board.

Ultimately I don't really give a shit, but like everyone else here I like arguing about nothing.

No. Your wife is not the internet. At least as far as I know. Think of it like this. You reveal personal information about someone. On the internet. Through the internet. That's doxxing. But there's a problem. The information you reveal is technically public. Technically. That's the hang up. Not that drinky would get it. Cuz he's a dumbass.

Is this how CH is going to comment in risque threads from now on?

I don't get it, you're TOLD you are improperly equating "publishing" with "making public", yet you keep on with this public vs. private conversation BS.

What I'm hearing is that chus "published" this private information publically. Doxxing.
I'm wondering how given that he was talking with people privately.
I literally don't understand it. Tell me like I'm 3. Hell maybe I'm just too stupid to understand.

1. Whether the information is publicly available or part of the "public record" is irrelevant.
2. Chus provided multiple members of the bored with information those members were unlikely to know about otherwise or discover on their own.
3. Chus' actions under #2 substantiate "publishing".
4. The specific information provided by Chus under #2 was personally identifiable information.
5. Applying #2, #3, and #4, Chus published personally identifiable information to members of this board.

Hence, doxxing.

*sigh* You're right.

Contrary to what Chus and Darkside might think at the moment, I actually think they're both pretty cool guys. None of my views on this matter (nor theirs') will change that opinion.

...and the only reason I'm engaging in this debate is because I'm bored.

Ok... my next question then... If you will.
Why is telling board members publishing the information but telling your wife and kids is not. Is it the media involved or is it the level of intimacy of the people having the conversation? My wife was unlikely to know this but now we've discussed it... have I participated in a doxxing by talking about it with her?
You say multiple... is the number of participants in the conversation relevant? Let's say he just told me and me alone in a pm... is that doxxing?

At what number of participants does that become a problem? If he had say 5 people over for beers and he talked about it would that have been doxxing?

I guess you're going to ask JLN if what Chus did is actually considering doxxing as that term is defined on urbandictonary.com, as he's the board's resident lawyer for all things internet related.

Im not disagreeing that Chus sent a private message to a group of people. Im saying that in this context he did not intend for the information to remain private.

Again, the context of which of speaking is only applicable within the universe of this board. And now you've got me talking like Yoda, which is why I posted that bit about how this would all be different if he shared what he knew about Chas with only his family.

We have arrived at the "you care too much about it" phase, followed by an insult with the sole purpose of ending the discussion. You are starting to sound like Julie.

I am responding to each and every criticism, without playing the victim card. Defending myself is proof of what exactly?

When you're the one who says "I don't care", yes, how much you care as evidenced by the sheer number of replies is certainly relevant.

And you're the only one lobbing insults here, my friend.

That you have a hard time truly owning up to shitty things you might do. Doxxing the guy was a shitty thing to do, and everyone here knows you did it, but you'll only accept partial responsibility for it. And not only that, but you went on a podcast and lead everyone to believe you had nothing to do with it. That's doubling-down on shitty behavior.

Because people here care that a middle-aged man in Florida be allowed to post his inane rantings in relative anonymity, while your wife and children wonder why you spend so much time talking to strangers on the internet.

I don't know if what Chus did constitutes as doxxing. Sort of a silly, relatively new term with an evolving definition, to be honest. But I firmly believe he intended for the information to be publicized on this board. And I am glad he notified people. He did the board a service.
