This is a good podcast for horseplayers. There's a lot of great information from some sharp guys here. Also, some funny stuff from bullshit artists. I highly reccommend Ep 1 (Marshall Gramm) and Ep 4 (Inside the Pylons).
https://open.spotify.com/show/6tMlMDA3ST8aKj7KmtlJmWim curious JORR - with this horse racing stuff, do you make more than you lose when daily/weekly/yearly?
It's a small margin game. No matter what anyone tells you. Even the best computer algorithm can't win without rebates. There are very few guys who can show a consistent profit year after year. The takeout we're playing against is just too damn high. It took me a long time to get to where I can be a winning player. Over the last five years I've had one losing season. You have to play into the pools with low takeout. Your opinions have to be good enough. And you have to make the right bets. That last part is the toughest.
And now with the advantages being given to the big computer players, it's a whole new game. You cannot beat the takeout and the computers on the dirt. Especially in dirt sprints which make up a huge portion of today's races. I can beat the computers on synthetic surfaces and I have at least a fighting chance on grass.
