I thought Pinners was played off of the cement stairs of brick bungalows. This older kid known mononyously as "Soski" was in love with my sister and would always play Pinners with me to get to her. He wore the same Black Sabbath t-shirt every day. This is NW side, Harlem/Irving circa 1978. We'd play "off the wall" at Canty Elementary School or "lob league" at Hiawatha Park.

Yeah, stairs worked well for pinners too.

Oh yeah, that's it. That has to be a depression-era game originally played with a petrified rat or something.
