When they refuse to give you your three feet, you have to take a full lane!

You were probably paying too much attention to the cyclists (and runners and walkers) around you.

How many bikers did you run over while you were working on your photoshop project?

RIP JORR.

After 2023 JORR won't have to worry about getting run over. Although if it is actually completed by then it would be the first project ever in the history of Chicago to be finished on time.

Chicago to add concrete barriers to all protected bike lanes by end of 2023
By ABC7 Chicago Digital Team

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Chicago Department of Transportation announced Wednesday it will be installing new concrete curbs for all protected bike lanes by the end of 2023

CDOT will begin installing new pre-cast concrete curbs along Kinzie Street between and Milwaukee and Wells. By the end of the year, the city expects to add 25 miles of concrete-protected bike lanes.

By the end of 2023, the city plans to upgrade all existing delineator-protected lanes to concrete curbs.

"Public safety is not only about our emergency response departments, it's also about creating infrastructure that makes the public way safer for all," said Mayor Lori Lightfoot. "By leveraging funds from the Chicago Works Capital Plan, we are excited to kick off the largest bike lane upgrade the city has ever undertaken. I look forward to working with the Chicago Department of Transportation and Commissioner Biagi on this project and the many more to come."

Fifteen miles of existing protected bike lanes will be updated and 10 miles of new protected bike lanes will be added in 2022.

"Barrier protected lanes are the best way to make biking a safer and more comfortable transportation option for everyone, and this year we're adding more than ever," said CDOT Commissioner Gia Biagi. "Thanks to dedicated funding from Mayor Lightfoot's Chicago Works program, we're making unprecedented safety upgrades to our bikeways network and will continue working with community stakeholders on building neighborhood bike networks to ensure that Chicago is a city where everyone has the option to ride a bike."

CDOT will use a combination of traditional concrete curbs and pre-cast curbs.

In addition to Kinzie Street, roads that will get concrete barrier bike lanes in 2022 will be:
-Lake Street - Pulaski to Damen
-Logan Boulevard - Rockwell to Diversey

-Milwaukee Avenue - Addison to Irving Park, Chicago to Division, and Kinzie to Ohio.
-Independence Boulevard - Douglas to Harrison
-Douglas Boulevard - Independence to Sacramento
-119th Street - Ashland to Halsted and Major Taylor Trail

If they're going to spend all that money, then anybody riding a bike outside of those concrete Lanes should get a ticket.

You rarely hear about a bicyclist killing anyone but for some reason Frank is obsessed with cyclists breaking traffic laws and completely unconcerned that he undoubtedly sped to work this morning.

If so he probably honed his skills on the Next Door Neighbor app. When they aren't alerting us to coyote sightings they are complaining about everything under the sun, with both bikers and runners bearing much of it.

6 over the limit can get you one in certain areas. Should install cameras on stop signs to ticket bike and car violators.

Bikes are legal road vehicles in all 50 states. I'm sorry you hate the law and want to speed.

You can't have it both ways. You can't scream "IM A LEGAL ROAD VEHICLE" as you cruise through a stop sign.

Bikes are parasites that cling on to a network of roads and streets built for motorized vehicles.

Maybe. But I'm not saying anything about cars. If you speed, you run the risk of getting a ticket.

You seem to think its perfectly acceptable for those riding bikes to blow thru stop signs, red lights, or impede traffic with improper lane usage. All while screaming that bikes are legal road vehicles. Not sure there as been a better WYC example in the history of this board than your musings on bikes.

The problem is that cities have been built around motorized vehicles.

I know you're not talking about cars. You're more concerned with cyclists doing things that at worst endanger themselves than you are with unsafe following distances at high speeds that you often engage in yourself and which lead to hundreds of thousands of deaths per year.

Damn progress! If you hate it so much, move to rural Ohio/Pennsylvania and become Amish.

I haven't gone balls to the wall since I had my knee repaired.

Today as I rode onto the bike path I dropped in behind two skinny guys on road bikes. They weren't going fast and I was comfortable sitting right behind them. But I'm not out there to be comfortable. If I had gone ten miles like that it wouldn't have been much of a workout.

I knew I was going to move past them at some point if they didn't pick it up. But I didn't want to get into a situation where I passed and then they got all aggressive behind me. Again, I haven't gone all out since my surgery. One of my pet peeves- and it happens all the time- is when a guy passes and as soon as he clears over in front of me he slams on the brakes, i.e. he cannot maintain a pace that was faster than what I was doing when he passed. Most of the time when that happens I just come right back out around the guy, but if you catch me in a bad mood I'll put my wheel on your back tire until you get the fuck out of my way. Anyway, I didn't want to do that to these guys so I wanted to make sure if I passed I could keep going even if they started pushing.

We got out on a long straightaway and the lead rider came up behind a bow-legged Mexican. I figured he would just pull out to the left and all three of us would pass the Mexican, but he seemed content to just ride along behind him. At that point I had had enough. I moved outside and blew past all three of them.

The next time I got stopped at a red light, the first two guys were nowhere to be found but the Mexican pulled up behind me. He was deceptively fast. When the light turned green he actually had the audacity to come out of there in front of me. I rode hard past him and kept on going. He couldn't keep up.

This was my best post-surgery ride so far. I averaged 13 mph for ten miles. Thanks bow-legged Mexican for the push!
