Looking forward to the short course action this afternoon. Going to hit the gym and watch it while on the treadmill. My mom passed off a good portion of my dad's ashes to his good friend that took his job at Augusta and will be spreading them on the Par 3 course after the tournament.

Got home and turned the TV on by 3:15 and noticed the Par 3 was wrapped up by 4, at least on ESPN. They spent the entire time watching Jack, Player and Watson. Jack could barely walk the short course and even Player has lost a significant step. A bit disappointing for me, I thought it ran a little longer than that. Today should be a bit better and coverage will run much later so that will be good.

Course must be playing pretty tough, nobody going really low. Everyone officially out on the course or finished by now. -3 is leading in the club house.

I think a lot of that is the old adage that you can't win the Masters on the first day but you can definitely lose it by making some silly mistakes and being a little too aggressive.

I was on a flight today with a guy from Augusta who rents his house out during the Master's. Says he makes enough money to take two long vacations every year by doing this.

When I was there I was talking to a guy who recently moved to Augusta. Said he lives in a neighborhood in which a lot of players rent houses (or more accurately their sponsors do) and the going rate is around $15k for the week. I asked when he'll start doing that and he immediately said "next year".

I have an aunt that lived right outside the gate by #5. She would rent her house for the week and live in an RV in back and be "housekeeping" for the renters. They had a big yard and would also park cars in it all week. Think she told me it was about a $15K week (this was 80's, early 90's). When Augusta remodeled everything, they bought her house (and the whole neighborhood), and tore them all down. I was able to go to the masters twice, for free, with passes she got from friends. Again though, this was pre-Tiger and everything blowing up. Last year I went was '92. Pretty sure I wouldn't even recognize the place now.

They finally convinced O'Meara not to play.
