There is not a worse feeling when that happens. My buddy got a driver in high school or maybe early college years and we took it to the range. Back then I was swinging quite hard, probably
120mph plus. I took one swing with his club and the head went flying about 60 yards into the driving range. I handed him back the shaft and said I was sorry.

What's the rule on fixing that? Is he allowed to fix it so long as he has the backup shaft on him, or can he dispatch someone to run to the tour truck?

I think because he broke it within normal play, he can replace it with the exact same club or repair it so long as he does not delay the round.

I have a friend who broke my 3 wood at an event doing it. when he told me he couldn't make it this year I told him I was thankful that I wouldn't loose another club.I think he has done 4 of these events and broken two clubs that way. The first was his own that was old. Mine was a bit nicer and I can't find the damn head to put on a new shaft.
