I also recommend getting Montazuma's revenge the day before your trip ends. I did that and between that and the volleyball I managed to lose weight at an all inclusive.

Solid tips here, I am pretty sure they have both sand and pool volleyball. As for the Montezuma's Revenge, I unintentionally did that to myself my first trip
to Mexico in Cabo. I had been brushing my teeth with the tap water and it happened to strike me while I was out on a snorkeling trip. I had to sit in the
boat most of the trip and when we finally hit dry land I made a bee line for the outhouse they had on the beach. Everyone had to wait in the van until I was
reasonably sure I could make it back to the resort. I am not sure I am going to chance that again before I get on a plane.

Are you headed to the Yucatan, T-Bone? if so, make sure you snorkel in a few cenotes (fresh water pools/caverns scattered across the peninsula) while you're there. Dos Ojos is probably the most famous, but there are a bunch of great ones near Coba, Valladolid, Merida, etc. I like snorkeling in them more than swimming in the ocean, even though the beaches there are amazing. Check this video out to get a feel for what they're like: https://www.lonelyplanet.com/mexico/yucatan-peninsula/travel-tips-and-articles/secret-swims-the-cenotes-of-mexicos-yucatan-peninsula/40625c8c-8a11-5710-a052-1479d2765f7e

FYI, I got my montazuma's revenge from swimming in a cenote and inadvertently swallowing some of the water.

I've probably been to about 20 different cenotes over the past few years. Never had a problem. I also eat at all of the funky looking roadside places where they're roasting chicken on a spit over live coal. 5 bucks usually gets you a great meal.

We will likely stay on the resort. Had some bad luck on past excursions and it isn’t as safe as it used to be down there. If I get a wild hair I might rent some clubs and go golfing but even when I did that last year it wasn’t really worth the money. I was first out in the morning and finished in like 90 minutes on a cart by myself. The driver wouldn’t come back for me as he was scheduled to come back like 6 hours after he dropped me. I sat at the bar and drank for like an hour until the head pro paid for me to be dropped back at my resort. It was fun and an adventure but for the cost and the time and the 45 minute ride each way I’d likely skip it. If I was going with buddies and had my own clubs that would be different. My wife and I did deep sea fishing and that was just ok, not fishing season down there this time of year. On our honeymoon we did parasailing and the boat died twice when we were in the air dunking us into the water twice before they reeled us in and we got pulled back on board. Had to go ten rounds with them just to get our money back on that one. Yeah we are paying plenty to be at the resort so we can make the most of that I think. It’s been a rough 18 months so relaxing sounds just fine

My rules for these kinds of trips include no drinking until after either a long beach walk or a 5 mile dreadmill run, only one plate at the buffet, go for healthier options like the fruit and fish, and minimal desserts. Resort desserts are usually bad anyhow and I would rather divert those calories to mudslides and margaritas. :drunken: :drunken:

It (usually) works out for me.

Sounds weird, but when I was sick, I ate a lot of chicken and beef bouillon since that's all that was allowed. I continue to drink/eat it now, and it's a great appetite "quencher" with basically no calories. Lots of salt, though.

Well I really need to get to the gym tonight even if it is a brisk walk with an incline for 45 minutes. I feel like a piece of veal by not moving my body
much the last 10 days.

Yeah, I'm getting antsy, too, due to the inactivity resulting from my ankle injury. Fortunately, the swelling has reduced by 70% or so, I'm able to walk more easily, and I'm not in much pain any longer. Another 3-5 days and I think I should be able to return to the treadmill. I'd also like to try doing some lifting this weekend.

How fast is brisk? What number on the treadmill? I have a feeling I have been going easy on myself.

I know most of you guys are a little younger, but ever since I turned 48 last autumn, I sort of hit a wall with cardio and strength training. Especially strength training. Body also falling apart all of a sudden (not to mention being able to see my scalp in the mirror; what the Christ is that?). Maybe 48 is just that age.

On the plus side, I still think about sex, like, all the time.

Brisk is a relative term, you are right. I turn 43 in May. If I am trying to push a good pace that usually means about a 3.8 for speed and about a 2.0 incline. I have short legs for my size so anything higher than 4.0 is a slow jog for me. I can also set it to vary the terrain as well but I like to avoid holding onto the sides if I can walk quickly, yet in control.

I'm the same way about going over 4, although when I'm really in (relative) shape I'll do 4.1 or 4.2 the last few iterations of an interval.

I usually go with two-minute intervals, and when I was in my best shape of the last 5-6 years I'd get up to 4.1 and 3% for the last two fast intervals out of 30 minutes.

Scalp appeared in mirror when I was 19. Went from forehead to 6head pretty damn fast. Body in my 40’s is a wreck. My knees are shot.

Ankle is still swollen and tender. Not gonna be able to resume running for another few days--at the earliest. :(

Up 5 pounds from Mexico vacation but not a huge surprise. I know my weight will normalize and plan on getting back into the gym and making a strong
push for the spring here. I thought a lot about it while sitting on the beach and know that I can make this happen for me. Making progress before golf
season is priority one.

Haven't been able to do formal exercise much this week, but was able to eat carefully except for a handful of cookies last night before I got on my flight back to Chicago. I weighed myself when I got home from O'Hare, which is usually a big mistake, and I had still lost 2 pounds this week.

Does anybody belong to Planet Fitness? I need to switch from XSport (which is crappy but cheap) to something that has locations near both my dad's place in Lombard and where I'm looking to move to in NC. They advertise a $22/month deal for using any location nationwide.

Down 5lbs but now got a ham and back.

Ran 6 miles on Monday and then on Tuesday and Wednesday the ham let me know it did not appreciate the outing.

On Wednesday the class I did required 150 deadlifts in 30 minutes. Thursday I wasn't sure if I could keep my upper body upright.

I joined Planet Fitness last summer and really like it a lot. You should be able to potentially find a better deal than that if you look online. I pay $20
a month and have that reciprocal deal with other locations and can also bring a guest. I can also use all of the tanning, red light, and massage machines
they have in back.

My ankle and achilles still haven't recovered sufficiently from the sprain/avulsion fracture to resume any running. I've been out for two weeks now--very frustrating.

I was all set to get my swell on last Wednesday morning, only to show up and find the gym closed on account of an "ice storm."

I settled for a most excellent plate of chorizo and eggs.

Cool. This is the deal I found online for $21.99
https://www.planetfitness.com/pfblackcard

They have a location in NC that is 10 minutes from our office, and there's one in Villa Park that's about 10 minutes from my dad's place. Having places around the country when I travel is a bonus because I hate most hotel workout rooms.

That is the deal I have. Maybe it was just a grand opening deal. Either way it isn't bad for a membership and one you can use all over the place. I
have found that they keep the equipment clean and there are almost always open machines for whatever you are looking to do.

Down 31.6 lbs as of this morning. Not super excited where my strength is at right now, but it's coming back incrementally each week, so I won't complain too much I guess.

I'm starting up the truck...again.

Probably going to commit to ride in the MS Ride out of St Charles in June as a stick.

Going the wrong way, gained a pound this week. Things a little out of whack with my father in law and my aunt dying Thursday and Saturday.
