It is for most but the idea is to reduce the dependency on those factors and become a bit more mechanical for more consistent results.

I'm sure you guys are pining to know about the state of public golf in DeKalb, but it's about to get better. There was talk of closing the only public 18 hole course out here. The park district faced a backlash from the golfing community and they decided to hie a director of golf. They hired my buddy and PGA pro Steve Moore. He was let go from the Rockford park district as director of instruction during some cost cutting at the end of 2018, and as you guys know the golf industry isn't exactly healthy right now. He worked for a bit last year at a course in Beloit but has largely been out of a job. I told him that this position was being created, he applied and got the job! Needless to say I will be playing in the Thursday evening league at River Heights making my return to the course I played before joining Kishwaukee CC.

https://www.daily-chronicle.com/2020/02 ... t/a1qiu2g/

Which got me thinking, how are the park district courses doing where you live? There was talk of closing two of the public courses in Rockford last year (following his layoff). What makes me mad about the talk of closing public golf courses is the argument that they operate in the red. Why do the park district golf courses have to turn a profit when the other parks (swimming pools for example) never do?

I'm near the Joliet park district courses. I haven't played Woodruff, but Inwood and Wedgewood are decent courses. Much easier to get on Wedgewood than Inwood in most cases. Inwood seems to draw a really slow playing crowd for some reason. Of the two, Wedgewood is a better test and more enjoyable. But, last year they sold some of the land and built a Hawk Suburu on the corner of Caton Farm and 59. So, they had to re-design some holes. They both seem to get enough play to make them viable.

On another note, I'm seeing a podiatrist about my feet this week. It's been a few years since I was able to walk even 9 holes because of Plantar Fasciitis. I decided to get it taken care because of the number of times there was no carts on Morris CC last year due to rain. I had a miserable experience walking Whistling Straits around 4 years ago and have used a cart since. But, I'm tired of not being able to walk the course.

Played a late afternoon round Friday morning at Gus Wortham Golf Course.

Par 71 course, shot a 105. 55 on the front, no score lower than a 5, but no score lower than a 7. Weird. No pars, no birdies. Made a mess of a greenside bunker - four strokes to get safely out. The first lie in the bunker was brutal, essentially a plugged ball that was on the same plane as my knees due to the contour of the bunker. That said, I should have collected myself after the first attempt rolled back into the bunker as the second shot was just a regular bunker shot.

Carded two pars on the back nine. Played the whole round with the same ball until hole 18 when I yanked my tee shot into the woods.

Or take an unplayable and eat the penalty, and give your self a legit shot to get up and down.

Long range forecast shows upper 40s the weekend of the 22nd. I may try and get out to a heated range and hit a bucket if that holds true.

Yeah, I really thought I was going to be able to execute the first bunker shot. I had a lot of green to work with so I should have just unloaded on it knowing that with the buried lie, there was almost no chance of flying the green. I've been pretty efficient with my bunker shots recently so I wanted to give it a shot.

Didn't work out - obviously.

Going to try to get back in the simulator this week. Officially have the golf bug again. I bought Ben Hogan’s book 5 Lessons for important bathroom reading.

45 tomorrow and maybe 50 on Sunday. Breezy, but sunny and most if not all the snow should be gone. Probably gonna hit up Odyssey at some point over the weekend and hit a bucket o balls.

Going to the new Topgolf in Schaumburg tomorrow. Apparently they have simulators in the bays now. I would like that more than hitting to those targets.

Hoping to get down to Pine Meadow Sunday to hit a large bucket. Assuming they are open.

I have not played Wedgewood. Inwood I like, but yes pace can be an issue. Its got a cool layout though that I generally like.

Woodruff is a little strange. The first like 6 holes are real boring. Its kinda like the same hole over and over just different length. The 7th is a nice par 3 over water, and the back 9 has some cool elevation changes. A couple of screwry holes too, but its worth it. Short, no par 5s and only one overly long par 4, but its old school and keeps you honest. Definitely worth playing if you can get to it. If you have foot problems though, not sure it would be the easiest course to walk.

Was just at Costco and bought two dozen Kirkland 3 piece golf balls for $25. Just a heads up to you guys. I haven’t played with these too much but there was a lot of hype surrounding the 4 piece balls. I’ll likely end up trying some in the spring and giving the rest to my wife. I have tried the Vice balls in the spring and found them to be good but not great. Still a great deal for brand new quality balls

Hit balls at Tony Romo’s dads range in Racine. Open year round. I thought it was a nice facility and should do pretty well with it. 30 spots to hit balls under some cover and each spot has a heater above. Inside they had a bar and two simulator cages.

I consider Vice balls good enough if they have the free shipping and extra dozen sale. 5 for price of 4 or 4 for 3 or whatever it was last year.

The Vice and Kirkland are fine for me in the spring when it’s cold and wet. By late May hopefully the ProV’s are in effect

I don't have game like you to donate the Pro V price tag.

I buy refurbished ones. $20 a dozen.

That’s what I thought I was buying this weekend. The one you are talking about is the 4 piece ball I think.

Those two links I posted seem to have all the info on the K-Sig balls.

The top Vice ball looks to perform virtually identical to the ProV1x. Cheaper, but not as cheap as refurbished ProV1x's.

I have plenty of balls I need to burn through before buying anything new. Unless there's a killer deal for something.

There were different versions of the K-Sig. If I remember correctly, the original was a 4 piece ball and highly sought after. Never heard how the re-released 4 piece performed. I only carpet putted with the 3 piece and it was way too "clicky" sounding to me. Chrome Soft and TM Project (a) work fine for me.

I bought five boxes of the Vice ball that was equivalent and didn’t find it to be so. Doesn’t have the soft feel and spin around the greens. It’s a nice ball especially for the price but half a step behind the Pro V

Walking boot GONE.

No surgery on the foot. PT and follow up in 4-6 weeks.

Hope to start chipping/putting next week.
