Heading out to play with a friend today at 2:15. Temps should be in the 50s. I'll ride in the cart with him so we can chat but with cart paths only I am sure to be walking a bit. Hoping to get around in 3 hours or so if it isn't too busy out there. Figuring I won't be playing this weekend as temps won't even top 40 so get some golf in while I can.

Played a couple of hours at Top Golf yesterday with some people in my new league. Was a fun time. Obviously not a round a golf but more like a golf bowling night but fun nevertheless. Heated decks and bays and all that. Expensive but Tuesday is half price.

Nice enough day out there to go short sleeves. Windy as hell. Other than a triple bogey on the 2nd hole after a topped drive and sailing one out of a greenside bunker there was much more positive than negative on the day. Hitting long irons very well and dialing in wedges a bit more. I had two shots with the new Vokey PW from 130-135 hit the green within 12 inches of the hole on the fly. I missed both putts from 6ft of course  I did birdie a difficult 190 yard par 3 into the wind. Still need to figure out the driver more. I am heeling it a lot but made some adjustments on the back nine and it was working out better. Frustrated with the bad putting but not worried about it with the shaggy greens. Another nice day today but I am going to take a break until next week sometime. This weekend looks cold and miserable. Sounds like a chance to get some yard work done raking and putting new mulch down ( if I get motivated ). All things considered carded an 80 so I'll take it

Little warmer than I anticipated today. Hoping to sneak out early to play a few.

Nice practice session on Sunday w/ the 52&58 degree wedges. Put on some lead tape and the control was much better. Felt like my OG 588 wedges. Seem to be on the right track with improved technique and not flipping the ball, which really cost me strokes last year.

Guess I never really new how to properly use tape on the irons. I have tried it on putters with varying success.

Was thinking about getting out tomorrow. Looks like possible rain up here after work for me. I have been coming into work at 5am to work on this killer project that is due end of next week and was even in here this last Sunday. Once I get this monkey off my back I will be ready to get out more after work. Made early tee times both Saturday and Sunday. Only one course open at my place as they did some pretty big redesigns around a number of greens on the other one. Slated to open in early May.

This was my first experiment with it. I had some of the old-school variety lying around. I'm playing the Cleveland CG10 wedges (I think you have some experience with them) and they feel lighter than I'm used to. My wedge game was the best when I used heavier 56&60 degree wedges with 120g shafts. Even though I now play lightweight steel shafts, heavier wedges for less than full shots makes sense.

I'm very happy with every club in my bag except for wedges, so that's the only place I'm willing to experiment. The great putter experiment of 2018 taught to me stick with what works. I also have these lead tape "tabs" that each weigh 2 swing weight points, or 4 grams, so I can get more precise.

Went out to a local executive course on Sunday afternoon. Its pretty exposed, so the wind made it feel colder than it really was. I hit the ball ok, but the cold and wind really affected the ball flight and distance. Definitely need to get my chipping game into a rhythm. I didn't hit many GIR, but didn't have any double bogeys either so that was good. Looking forward to playing/practicing in better temps. Have an early tee time Saturday which is looking to have a bit of a chilly start, but should warm up pretty nicely after a few holes.

The following weekend looks iffy with the weather and rain, but hopefully that will improve. Hoping to golf twice on Masters weekend- Friday & Sunday.

How do you know where to put the weight on the irons?

When Furious and Ugie talk about clubs like that, they may as well be speaking Japanese. I have no idea what any of that shit means.

I just placed a strip across the back of the wedge.

I only did it with 2 wedges that I rarely swing at more than 80%. Plus, unlike you, I have a moderate swing speed. The few times I swing more than 75%, it did seem like the ballflight was slightly higher, probably due to more weight under the ball. Have to see how it works on the course.

Makes sense on all accounts. Hey my swing isn't that out of control! 105-108mph is about all I can push out these days. Got a notification that my first Golf Locker shipped and should have it by this weekend. Really like this service a lot.

Got a busy weekend, but should be fine for my early tee time tomorrow. Probably be in short sleeves on the back 9.

Next weekend looks a little iffy at this point :(

My back has been a real issue the past week or so and my right heel has been jacked up since mid-February. I'm falling apart but hoping to get out as soon as it's nice.

Got a pair of lined Adidas pants in the mail yesterday and will put them to the test tomorrow. Low 40s at tee off and likely up to 50 by the time we finish up around 11:30. I think it is supposed to rain on Sunday but I might just gear up and go for it if it isn't pouring out. This has been the week from hell and I need to be outside. Bugging out of work at 2pm today. Probably could play but I think I would get a lot more out of hitting range balls so I am going to call to see if the grass tees are open locally.

Edit - Mats only.... probably still do it as it just seems like a better use of time instead of trying to get out at 2:30 and being behind someone slow

I'm a huge fan of Adidas Climacool/Climashell gear. Lined pants are actually something I could use.

Also, likely range session as well and maybe 18 at Mt. Prospect.

$50... https://www.golflocker.com/Adidas-Ultim ... ?DeptID=23

Figured I couldn't go wrong as long as I can stay that size for a few seasons

Somehow I shot a one under 71 this morning. Bogeyed the first hole and after that played mistake free golf. Got up and down 7 out of 8 times after missing greens, the miss being on the first hole. Super happy to go low so early in the season, I don’t think I went under par for 18 at all last year. Hopefully a sign of things to come. Still working out the kinks with the driver but everything else was working pretty well.

You guys use any of the Swisswell or Frog Toggs rain stuff? Reasonable on Amazon but I need reliable breathablity or I might as well get rained on I’ll sweat so much.

Went out Saturday morning in the fog, and outside of a few shots I did not hit the ball well at all after the first three holes. Shot a 92 on a par 66 short course, yuck. Putted and chipped really well, but I was pulling and/or chunking just about all of my irons. Hoping to get that corrected soon because as crisp as I hit the ball two weeks ago, thats as sloppy as I was this past weekend. I took Friday off for golf and Masters viewing, and I'm also playing our yearly Invitational tournament with our buddies on Sunday. Hoping the weather cooperates and my game improves a bit.

Got fitted and bought new irons yesterday. Not the most thorough fitting job since I told the guy I was only looking at the Mizuno 919 Forged irons and only wanted to look at the different stock shaft options. With my game, I'm not paying up to $3000 for irons. Was only there about 25 minutes for the 1.5 hour session. Ended up with steel shafts that are 30 grams lighter than the shafts I was using, but still stiff since I have good club speed. Upgraded to grips I liked that were also stock options and was able to get the set for $1500 total including the fitting charge. Should be here in 2-3 weeks.

Curious what kind of shafts you got in there. I got the KBS in my irons a few years ago when I got custom fit and I love them. What did you do with grips? Pretty cool that you can get exactly what you want rather than buy off the rack and then have to fix it yourself like the old days. What range of irons did you end up with? 5-PW or the full 3-PW?

Yeah, there's an appalling lack of detail on the lie angle, shafts and grips.
