That allows rifles, specifically rifles chambered in 7.62x39. Closer to the city is best, but I'm not unwilling to drive out a bit.

Bristol Wisconsin? I recall an outdoor range in Oswego...I think they allowed rifles.

I was way in the NW burbs so may be too far out. Gat guns in Dundee or cville would. I believe max is 25 yards though.

I think there may be a 100 yard indoor range near crystal lake. Don't recall the name now.

My preferred place if you can make a day of it is McMiller sports complex up in eagle wi. Seperate handgun and rifle range. Also a long distance range where you short from 100 200 and 300. Felt pretty bad ass to hit paper open sight at 300 yards. On an AK that may be a bit too much though. We would go there with a bunch of people with various handguns, rifles and shot guns. Not worth it for just an hour.

Russian SKS, guy I bought it from says it can hit targets at 300 but isnt quite reliable that far out. More 50-200 ish. I wouldn't k ow if that's different than an AK, it's definitely longer than an AK though (I cross shopped).

I got it for $375 w no bayonet but he included a 30 round detachable mag that's illegal where I live...From what I see online that's a decent deal.

Honestly just for plinking a 100 yard range would be fine to get myself better at shooting. Anyone have any experience with Article II in Lombard?

For cheaper all day shooting and long ranges check out Buffalo rock range. It's a ways down 55... but it's like 20 bucks and you can use a rifle range that something like 400 yards, a pistol range, a rifle pit where you can bring weird shit to shoot at (people bring old blow molds and shit like that). No hourly crap. I been going there to sight in my guns and shoot some clays.

Was gonna go with Gary, IN but that might or might not qualify for Chicago-Area.

I was in Grand Rapids for a little college reunion and we went to a Michigan DNR range that was truly perfect. 100% free, no nosy safety officer yelling at you for """muzzle sweeping""" or reloading with the safety off and you could bring anything you wanted and place it 1 to 200 yards out whereupon it would meet inevitable destruction. The only two rules seemed to be not to hurt anyone and keep everything downrange. I think we spent 10 hours there over the course of two days, I've gone from having no guns to SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED in the blink of an eye.

So anywhere even within 100 mi of the city like that? I see Wisconsin and Indiana have DNR ranges (ofc Illinois doesn't) but are they similarly lawless? I do not want any nancy boy safety burritos telling me what to do, just some good old boys who operately soley on a thumbs up=you're good (good to do what? that's up to you) system.

Yeah safety rules... who needs em on a firearms range.
