I don't know how many here follow professional poker, but one of the more colorful personalities has made it to day five---Mike "The Mouth" Matusow. He's been featured on numerous poker shows on Youtube going back years. He's kind of a trash talker and is known for his trademark glasses (and now sports a shaved head) but seems like a decent guy underneath. He's very genuine. Anyway, Matusow made it to day five of the World Series of Poker with about 350 players left. This is the furthest he's gotten in a while and has about $600K in chips. I was watching last night and he made a very good lay-down, holding A J with a Jack of Hearts against at guy who had A of hearts and Q of clubs. There were three hearts on the board on the turn but no player had made a pair. The highest card was a ten. The guy with AQ checked. After betting the flop and getting called, Matusow bet $25K or about half the pot. The guy check raised it to $50K. Matusow thought for a while and went over the whole hand, talking to himself, and then made the lay-down. It was a very good play. He must have thought his J of hearts wasn't good enough for the flush draw, even though he had Ace high and was drawing to the ace. Making a pair mattered less against the flush.
I hope he does good for the rest of the way.
